I think we might get a dog. Is there ANY alternative to a labrador?

I'd prefer something smaller

but it has to be 100% kidproof, clever and active, preferably with no hair at all or low shedding...

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 21/01/2007 20:30

or one of those robotic puppies - texter was it? you don't have to feed it, it doesn't shit all over your house and you don't have to take it for walks and it won't destroy things.

SherlockLGJ · 21/01/2007 20:30

Did I mention I have a wonderful Border Collie and would not entertain the idea of anything else ???

A little bit blacker and this could be her.

CountessDracula · 21/01/2007 20:32

oh I adore having a dog

Cannot imagine life without one actually

Cod you are a weirdo

justbeme · 21/01/2007 20:33

Darrelrivers - I have a miniature Schnauzer as well - He's nearly 2 . Very Clever and doesnt moult . and very quiet - i dont think he ever really went through the mad puppy stage - My friends puppy (hound) is abit of a nightmare . If you want a labrador or labradoodle - you have to be very strong as they really can Pull .
Saying that, If I could turn back time - I dont think I would have got a Dog - he really is a tie - I've always had Cats - so much easier - But I do Love him and wouldnt part with him now - Just that Im going to be tied for the next 16yrs or so ..........

Puppies in Dorset.

DarrellRivers · 21/01/2007 20:35

watch out justbeme, our schnauzer didn't know how to bark until she was 2 when my mum's dog taught her how to and now she is rather noisy
apart from that a fab dog

SmileysPeople · 21/01/2007 20:38

Enid's cottage, in a forest(or something), with her angelic looking daughters would be completed as ideal in my mind with the addition of a dog.

Cod please do not disturb my idyllic picture of her life with the mundane realities.

Enid, get the dog.

Rubybees · 21/01/2007 20:39

Justustwo Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known to be excellent with small children but not everyone's (or my) cup of tea - bit dopey for my liking.

I have one of these but agree on being dopey!!! We call him the ten second dog!!

Very good with children and easy to maintain, and very cutie as puppies, train well

hehe I love them

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/01/2007 20:39

Labradors shed!! Some of them big time!! We had one that would leave the shape of a labrador behind on our navy rug every time he got up! I am not allergic to dogs but even I was to him!

My mum has got a bassett hound. Despite their depressed appearance (!) they have lovely, micheivous characters and gentle and affectionate and even good with cats!

Macdog · 21/01/2007 20:40

Have a look at the Dial-A-Dog section.
They have breed advice/contacts and rescue society contacts

CODNoMore · 21/01/2007 20:40

but i want ennid to go intot he town where she will not hav mad unhinged stphen king type farmers near her.
