Vet just phoned me and said that Nemo has been shot and the pellet has gone through his femer bone and shattered his leg into 10 small pieces.

bloody hell! i remember in the news a little boy being shot at by an air rifle and he died

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 23:43

just found this on our local police site

aye, lanis, that was up in the East end of Glasgow, where they have the lowest life expectancy in all Europe.

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 23:45

I saw the one about the cat being throw off a building poor puss. I couldn't post on it at the time as I was so upset, my female cat Dory is in my bedroom now. DH is going to block up the catflap.

our moggies are all indoors, sparkly, and they're fine w/it. one's pretty old and Persian - can't jump much, was found as a stray. the other, we bring the jungle to her! toys, scratch post, etc.

lanismum · 15/07/2006 23:48

my cats dont roam, but 1 does have a little wander up and down the street at night, im alway worried about him, especialy when the fireworks go on sale

PinkTulips · 15/07/2006 23:48

oh sparkly, thats horrible!

hope the op goes ok and nemo is up and about soon... i know a couple of cats with 3 legs and they all manage remarkably well... i'm sure nemo will too.

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 23:48

he is fast using up his 9 lifes tho. he has been so ill in the last 8 months. And he was missing for 4 weeks in march/april, so I am devastated that this has happened.

I hate fireworks, I try to keep the cats in around that time. New house will not have a catflap.

good, sparkly. just make sure you bring it to them - toys, scratch posts, simulate the hunt, grow some catnip in a window box.

SparklyGothKat · 15/07/2006 23:59

will do. am thinking about emailing the local paper and asking them to do a story so that other cat owners can be aware.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/07/2006 23:59

it might not be a bad idea, spark. some people may truly NOT be aware of the danger.

SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:01

I never thought that my cat would be shot at TBH. nemo is the 3rd case that the vet has treated in the last few weeks, and there is about 6 vets round here so god know how many cats have actually been shot

It's common up here, too, Sparkly. Might help to start an awareness campaign.

Happens a lot to swans this time of year, b/c they are trying to protect their cygnets.

SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:11

will tell the lady 3 doors up on monday at the school, and ask her to tell the other people in the street, to be aware that someone is hooting cats and the next one might not be as 'lucky' as Nemo.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/07/2006 00:13

poor nemo!

SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:14

hooting!!! meant to be shooting!!

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:16

I am so upset, the fact that someone aimed at him and shot him.... he is a friendly cat and loves been fussed over, what cat deserves that?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/07/2006 00:27

he may have approached someone, for a stroke or that

lanismum · 16/07/2006 00:31

oh expat, that makes it seem worse

expatinscotland · 16/07/2006 00:32

especially considering our two were friendly strays themselves, lanis

SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:34

Dh said the same thing, when I was looking for him last night, I went to the playing field and asked a lady if she had seen him. She said 'has he got a black collar with red eyes in it?' I said yes and she said that her daughter had been cuddling him a few days ago. So I know that he would do that.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/07/2006 00:36

he might be best kept in, sparkly, especially during his recovery or if he does lose his leg, which i really hope he doesn't.

one of ours is a pure Persian who kept turning up at a surgery in Berwick.

can't imagine what could have been had he got into the wrong hands.

SparklyGothKat · 16/07/2006 00:38

I will do, I think I might buy a new puppy pen to keep him in while he is recovering.

OP posts:

good idea.

sounds cruel, but is effective: a spray bottle fo water. if that doesn't work, add a bit of white vinegar - he won't fancy the taste when he goes to lick it off.

my ex h had a cat who used to be outdoors, but he trained to be in - he has a huge house over 3 floors so lots of room! - using this.

cat would miaow at the door to go out and he'd give him a squirt. ONLY on body.

after a few days, he didn't miaow at the door.
