Where is criticism of Labour blocked on MN, please?

Disagreed with, yes, but blocked?

People jump on others. There is a claxon that goes off and posters jump on here, goading and been generally unkind. Waiting to pull anyone not from their group into a bunfight. They then mass report and delete to silence the posters. More seasoned posters are wise to these tactics and know they go on. People don’t need to @ me as when someone raises it - you’ll get 5/6 posters all weirdly denying they do it.

They HAD a huge majority.

They've still got a huge majority - the number of seats in Parliament is how the majority’s defined.

Which is why it is not working very well and many people are pissed off!

If you are adding Conservative and Reform vote shares, it is disingenuous not to add Labour and Lib Dem and possibly Green and SNP

This doesn't fly. Sorry. The Lib Dems picked up Conservative votes in areas that literally have no left wing support. They are just as much a protest vote as Reform are.

To intentionally vote lib dem was to aid a labour victory, there is no way on earth the lib dems could win outright.
It is also wrong to say that they have literally no left wing support - the neighbouring constituency to me returned a labour MP for the first time in its history, having always been tory since it was created.
The whole point of GTTO was to hold your nose and vote for the usual 2nd place party.

The taper between 100-125k means you lose your personal allowance giving an effective tax rate of 60%

could end up paying

do you really think those on NMW are going to be concerned about someone earning over £100k having to suffer this glitch? They'll just put it in pension contributions as they have that choice

Highers earners in the UK pay the highest rates of tax in the western world.

UK Low and Middle income earners pay some of the lowest rates in Europe. This is due to the 20% band in the UK and becomes you dont pay tax on the first 12k in the UK. In other countries income tax kicks in on the first euro you earn and they pay higher rates than the UK.

Suggest you google income tax thresholds across Europe.

Belgium - 25% from 1 euro, 15k euros is 40%
Portugal - 13% from 1 euro, sliding scale, 21k euros is 37%
France - 11% from 11k euros, 30% from 28k euros, 40% at 80k euros
Spain - 19% from 1 euro, sliding scale, 37% from 35k euros
Italy - 23% from 1 euro, sliding scale, 38% from 27k euros
Sweden - 0% to 50k euros, at 60k euros its 55% depending on municipal income tax
UK, - 0% to 14k euros (converted), 20% at 14k euros, 40% at 60k euros, 120k euros its 62% marginal rate, 150k euros its 45% tax

If you are a low or middle income earner you pay much less tax.

totally unsustainable. higher earners are not getting any support from the country, and being labelled all sort of nasty names by people who can’t be arsed to pull their weight. it is so regressed filled with unearned entitlement.

I imagine by the Labour Party itself, as any party does with an unpopular leader. 🤷‍♀️

Where are you getting that KS is an unpopular leader?

Just because a million or 2 million people sign a petition that they don't like the policies the labour give, have introduced - doesn't mean KS is unpopular within the party or with other voters

Eh?

Many a LibDem vote was a GTTO vote.

And many a Reform vote was a “the Tories didn’t do a hard enough brexit” vote.

So you can’t add Tory and Reform and say “look, that number beats Labour” as the PP did, if you aren’t going to allow the same maths on the more leftie side.

Happy for Lab and Con to be compared directly, or maths to be done on both, but not the hybrid the PP suggested.

i havent seen a deletion yet on this thread.

Oh, I see. You don't understand what "marginal" tax rate means then. As has been pointed out, the person you quoted as being wrong was actually correct as they clearly said it was a 62% MARGINAL tax rate, which is correct. Your example illustrates something completely different.

my example shows the total tax at 34% as NI is included

do you really think someone earning £36k average wage is going to be concerned about marginal tax at 62% when in reality the pay packet shows something completely differently in their pay packet

They ought to be as the person earning the average wage is being heavily subsidised by the higher earner. A bit of a problem when they reduce tax.

Tbh this is pointless BUT people should be allowed to express their dissatisfaction through whatever democratic avenues are available to them. I much prefer this to people rioting in the streets or making a nuisance of themselves in public.

So do the government which is why they are a fan of them. You can ignore them however many people sign them and nobody will notice. Much more difficult to ignore something like the poll tax riots for example.

People feeling like they have actually done something when they haven’t stops them from doing something inconvenient.

BBC News - Young people who refuse to work to lose benefits, says minister - BBC News
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp35r0v7q95o

I feel like this might be an issue with writing headlines for click bait. 1) they probably already do lose benefits. It would be odd if they didn’t. 2) It doesn’t look like the article is clear either. She seems to have answered yes to a question about whether they would remove it with out either the interviewer or her mentioning what was in place.

My guess is that a more accurate version of the article would be about Labour having a policy to overhaul apprenticeships and get young people back into work but that this has been lost mot necessarily because or right wing bias by the BBC but because they know that headline will get more clicks. That and the fact that the quality of their journalism on their website is at best questionable and at worst seriously dodgy.

I don’t think he was ever wildly popular but that’s probably no bad thing. But he has quite a lot of room to fall before he becomes less popular that the Tory party or Kemi. Or before he meets the Liz Truss yardstick.
