Petition against teaching gender identity ideology in RSE lessons in schools.

This petition has been sitting on the petitions thread getting no where with little time left to go.. I thought people might pay more attention to it here.

Children are being subtlety brainwashed.

Remove references to 'gender identity' from relationships education guidance

^Since 2020 the DfE has published guidance for relationships and sex education. This says "Pupils should be taught the facts and the law about sex, sexuality, sexual health and gender identity in an age-appropriate and inclusive way". Gender identity is a social construct, and not recognised in law.*

There's no evidence that we're born with a ‘gender identity’, and we do not believe that schools should be teaching children about this concept. We also believe that teaching school children about gender identity is inconsistent with the Education Act (section 406), which prohibits 'political indoctrination'. The Government should remove all references to 'gender identity' from guidance on relationships and sex education.

This has only 5,084 signatures so far. It needs 10,000 the government will respond.

i think the reason it hasn't got enough signatures is because it's badly worded, doesn't ask for the right thing and doesn't justify it well.

I disagree with it fundamentally despite being gender-critical myself because I don't think that all references to gender identity should be removed. kids have to grow up in the world as it is, not as we would like it to be, and the gender identity cult is very strong. our children should be being taught that this set of beliefs is based on faith and that there is no more or less evidence for the existence of gender identity than there is for the existence of Ganesh or Karma or Jehovah, and it's up to them to choose whether or not to believe it and also their responsibility as members of a free society to respect the rights of others to choose not to believe it. equally, those who don't believe in it need to balance their own important right not to believe it with a need to respect the dignity of thise who do in as far as possible whilst asserting their own legitimate boundaries.

the younger generation need to learn this urgently before the cultists start indoctrinating them, and that can't happen if all references to gender identity are removed from the syllabus.

the petition's single paragraph of explanation in "read more" is totally inadequate to justify the demand of the petition in any case.

I agree that 'gender identity' cannot be ignored. Children will come across it, and they need the information to escape indoctrination into what is, effectively, a cult.

If 'gender identity' belongs anywhere in the curriculum, it should be in the Religion part. Taught in the same way: "Some people believe..." and that you can respect that these people have these beliefs without in any way adopting them yourself or participating in them or in their rituals.

It wouldn’t ever be in RE lessons. It is taught in RSE.

Even if you think that it is badly worded, do you think it should be discussed in parliament or get a response from the government? I do and so I signed. I agree gender identity and perhaps also the related queer theory should be taught as what they are, theories which some people subscribe to and others do not. I agree that the wording is not ideal for getting the point across but I signed anyway because I would like to see either a response from the government or if a miracle happens, a debate in Parliament.

It wouldn’t ever be in RE lessons. It is taught in RSE.

Gender identity is as much to with sex, as T is to do with LGB. It has been force-teamed. I doubt it would be taught as part of RE, either, even though the concept of a gender identity is similar to the concept of a soul. An gender identity is as provable as the existence of god.

Where and how are Humanism, atheism and cults taught about?

NB I am not equating Humanism and atheism with cults!

I have signed. Even though it's a woolly-worded petition - the issue needs to be discussed and addressed.

I think humanism is part of the “ethics and beliefs” curriculum as RE seems to be called now.

I just wrote that apropos of the fact that what ever ought to be done about deciding whether ‘gender identity’

a. should be taught at all,
or
b. in what context, such as ‘belief systems’ or ‘social customs’,

……is not what is happening.

This is what Transgender Trend wrote:

In fact, no transgender school guides or resources are compatible with the new Department for Education guidance (with the exception of our own schools pack). None are evidence-based; all promote the non-scientific idea of innate gender identity as fact. Teaching children to understand themselves through the model of ‘gender identity’ encourages children to believe their personalities are ‘wrong’ for their sex and their bodies are ‘wrong’ for not matching their gender identity. The idea of gender identity is inevitably based on gender stereotypes, there is no other way for children to understand it, and it gives children no way to be ‘right’ with themselves if they reject those stereotypes.

Section 28 (but this time for the trans!) is unlikely to be a winning suggestion..hell, it's not that long ago they stopped apologising for the original.

As a teacher, I have signed it, and am surprised at how few signatures it has.

I appreciate that "gender identity" as a concept exists, but there is a world of difference between "some people believe..." and "everyone has a gender identity". It is the latter that is being taught, and as teachers our hands are tied because the guidance says we have to teach them about gender identity. Why???

There are multiple comparable trends in teens at the moment, such as tick attacks and multiple personality disorder or whatever theyre calling it this week. We don't (yet) teach children explicitly about these two things, because they are fads which will pass, and the worst possible thing would be to encourage them by giving them more attention. Nobody really taught gender identity at all until about 5 years ago - it only landed in the guidance in about 2019. Sticking it on the curriculum just makes it worse.

I think unless you are genuinely happy with schools teaching that everyone has a gender identity, and that sex is assigned at birth, and that gender is more real than sex, then you should sign the petition.
If it gets lots of signatures then the govt will be more likely to look at the issue and decide what to do.

And can you explain very clearly for us how this resembles Section 28 and the needs of gay people?

How exactly does the teaching of gender in an ideologically driven method resemble the acknowledgement that people who are same sex attracted simply need the same rights of recognition and protection as opposite sex attracted people?

I look forward to you, a self appointed spokesperson for the trans community (as per your previous posts) explaining that. Because I have not seen a convincing argument yet.

Just a recycling of poorly conceived and emotionally manipulative statements. This is our children’s welfare at stake here. So, please give us a convincing argument.

Looking at that Transgender trend website I posted a link to earlier, the worst problem is the outsourced, ideological resources schools are using.

It is very interesting to hear what you are finding as a teacher

Here is Transgender Trend explaining the problem with current DoE guidance on RSE teaching of ‘gender identity’.

This really is outrageous.

“Pupils should be taught the facts and the law about sex, sexuality, sexual health and gender identity in an age-appropriate and inclusive way.”

There is in fact no law on ‘gender identity’ and teaching this concept goes further than the requirement to teach children that transgender people exist, should have full rights and should not be discriminated against.

‘Gender Identity’ is not a protected characteristic in the Equality Act 2010 and is not defined in the Act, nor is it mentioned in the Gender Recognition Act 2004. ‘Gender’ and ‘transgender’ are also not protected characteristics. ‘Gender reassignment’ is the protected characteristic and the group of people protected by this characteristic are defined as ‘transsexuals.’
