Thanks for the reminder, I'd not signed yet.

crossstitchingnana · 29/09/2022 06:29

Signed

WanderingFruitWonderer · 29/09/2022 06:33

Thank you. Just signed

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 29/09/2022 06:42

Yanbu to want an election but it won't happen.

Lablover678 · 29/09/2022 06:47

Thanks, have done so. Hopefully a popular petition of this sort might just make a few more Tory MPs reconsider the muppets they have in the Cabinet, or gain attention in the press and add to the (negative) narrative.

MayThe4th · 29/09/2022 06:53

it’s not going to happen.

MayThe4th · 29/09/2022 07:02

It’s not really a popular petition though. There have been 76000 signatures, out of a UK population of 60 million people.

The press aren’t going to take that seriously.

And tbh as much as I want this lot out as well, I’m not sure that it’s a good idea to have a general election at this stage and to create even more instability.

Labour have a long way to go to make themselves electable. There’s a real risk that votes lost from the conservatives won’t go to labour now, and that the tories would get back in possibly under a coalition government with e.g. the Lib Dems, who many people will vote for rather than voting for labour.

Lockheart · 29/09/2022 07:06

I agree with your sentiment but petitions aren't allowed on the main boards.

Lablover678 · 29/09/2022 07:09

Conscious it's not a popular petition yet. But signing it is more likely to make it so. Even an additional sentence in a news story makes it worth that minute of my time I spent signing it.

I am an incurable optimist though.

ButtOutBobsMum · 29/09/2022 07:12

No thanks. Not until there's a credible alternative. At the moment I'm afraid it's a "better the devil you know" situation.

The petitions need to be for reversal of the mini budget, steps to ensure the poor are not made poorer and the rich richer.

For the chancellor to be held to account for the current economic situation and if possible for there to be a vote of no confidence in the current pm.

Calling for a snap election is a knee-jerk reaction.

“Anyone but this government” is all very well to say, but sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.

people were saying that about Boris when they were calling for his head, and look where that’s got us.

I dislike Boris as much as the next person, but I guarantee that he and Rishy wouldn’t have fucked with the economy in this way, in fact Rishy was strongly advising against these kinds of tax cuts and warning of the issues which could arise.

midgetastic · 29/09/2022 07:17

It's over 70000 already - how many hours has it been running ?

At 100000 - which I suspect it will reach today - it will be debated in parliament

I am happy with any alternative that has sone economic credibility and some social conscious - anybody but the current lot - hec my neighbours cat couldn't make such a mess of things

procrastinatingloser · 29/09/2022 07:18

Well, the government responded to it on the 20th. So it’s been running almost 2 weeks and is only at 70000

And at 100000 it will *be considered) for debate in parliament.

Kendodd · 29/09/2022 07:30

What they need is a petition to reverse this budget and put a windfall tax on utility companies. A GE would only tie parliament up for months, in fact we'd have no parliament. We're in this mess because the only economist the gov will listen to is Patrick Minford and the only reason that is, is because he was just about the only economist who thought Brexit was a good idea. Anyone decent and competent got the sack.

Freysimo · 29/09/2022 07:33

A general election and more upheaval is the last thing we need at the moment.

Notlosinganyweight · 29/09/2022 07:33

I'll sign it but it will do the square root of fuck all. I am probably going to write to my local Tory MP which might be more powerful.

Are you taking the piss? Seriously, have you seen what's happened over the last few years. Fuck, I've never known a government destroy its currency to line their pockets before. Well, not in the UK anyway, Zimbabwe yes and the pound dropped 6% against their currency.
Then the Johnson debacle...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2022 07:45

Does anyone believe the start of the governments opening response?

Doesnt feel like a parliamentary democracy when they can put in a 'mini' budget without submitting it to scrutiny by anyone.

Oh and despite saying all the above, I have signed the petition. I'm also going to go to either this or the Tory party conference demos wesayenough.co.uk/oct1/

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 29/09/2022 08:04

I can't stand the Labour Party we have at the moment, and I'd still vote for them in a GE. That's how bad it's got as far as I'm concerned. Truss is even worse than I thought she'd be.

spookyjupy · 29/09/2022 08:08

it won't let me sign because I can't click on the 'I am a British citizen' box

SerendipityJane · 29/09/2022 08:09

I voted YABU, since last official government petition I signed got over six million signatures (that's 10% of the population) and disappeared without trace. What's the point ?

The only poll that matters was the one in December 2019. You had your chance and you blew it.

No it's the second from last thing we need

The last thing we need is Truss fucking everyone

HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine · 29/09/2022 08:23

Sadly, I am somewhat sceptical. Remember the petition for a 2nd brexit referendum signed by 6 million people back in 2019 when it became obvious it would end up the way it is now? Was that given any real consideration? Or the huge peaceful demonstrations?
Nope. No one cares.
