Oh for Christ’s sake.

Maybe your next job should be to start a petition complaining that if Wessex has got representation why don’t we have a Duke of Mercia. Or complain that Cambridge has been subjugated by William and Kate?

Some catastrophically bad takes around at the moment from idiots with zero knowledge of any actual history.

welshpolarbear · 10/09/2022 22:59

Jeez. Dim diolch.

Amser anghywir hefyd.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 10/09/2022 23:03

Nope.

ellieboolou · 10/09/2022 23:11

This reply has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.

Rapidtango · 10/09/2022 23:15

No. The Queen's relationship with Aberfan tells me all I need to know about her respect for the people of Wales.

Gingerkittykat · 10/09/2022 23:16

I have no idea why my reply has been immediately hidden, probably because I expressed the sentiment that I would abolish the whole system of people being born into the role of head of state.

Hi Megan,

I am sorry you married the wrong prince.
Please don't spoil it for me, just because I got there first.

Yours Sincerely

Katherine, Princess of Wales

MaryJoLisa · 10/09/2022 23:23

You do not speak for all Welsh people - I'm born and bred and so, so proud to be Welsh and I do not stand with this suggestion.

mummaforever · 10/09/2022 23:25

Signed. Some of the commenters here really need to read history books

Spinstdu · 10/09/2022 23:26

It's not something I even think about so not really bothered.

Mrs Danvers no need to be bloody rude.

Raul57 · 10/09/2022 23:30

I hear you but crass timing.
I've never been a big royal fan and Andrew's news along with the other couples
woes it nearly put me off. However, HM in recent years grew on me as did Charles and more recently Camilla. William and family have been the icing on the cake so I now support Charles/Camilla, Wills and his immediate family and even Ann and her husband and other than that it's a no.

As I said this thread has poor timing anf you should never forget that HM was our Queen but also another human and a parent, grandmother and a great grandmother therefore this thread is out of place atm.

@Ylvamoon The reason for the petition have nothing remotely to do with Meghan, Catherine, Harry, or William. Maybe click on the link and you will see it is about the history of Wales instead of making a fool of yourself and proving you don't even know what the petition is actually about.

The "Prince of Wales" title (Welsh: Tywysog Cymru) is a title historically used by native, Welsh princes since the 14th century. The last native Prince of Wales was Llywelyn the Last, killed by English soldiers in 1282 and his head was then paraded through the streets of London and placed on a Tower of London spike. Llywelyn's brother Dafydd was the first person of note to be hung, drawn and quartered and his head was placed next to Llywelyn's. Both their daughters were taken as infants and children and imprisoned.
But this happened centuries ago you might say. The truth is, that since the days of Llywelyn the Last and the "rebel" Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr, the title has been held exclusively by Englishmen as a symbol of dominance over Wales. To this day, the English "Princes of Wales" have no genuine connection to our country.
The title remains an insult to Wales and is a symbol of historical oppression. The title also implies that Wales is still a principality, undermining Wales' status as a nation and a country. In addition, the title has absolutely no constitutional role for Wales, which is now a devolved country with a national Parliament.
Whatever your political views, this is an important step for us all in Wales. As Welsh actor, Michael Sheen put it;

"Make a break there. Put some things that have been the wrongs of the past right. There's an opportunity to do that at that point. Don't necessarily just because of habit and without thinking just carry on that tradition that was started as a humiliation to our country."
"Why not change that as we come to this moment where things will inevitably change."

Catherine would know how to spell Meghan.

LadyPenelope68 · 11/09/2022 08:41

Have you not got school homework to get getting on with?

AppleKatie · 11/09/2022 08:51

Nobody’s managed to explain to me how they’ve all been welsh since the c14th despite the evil English killing them off in the c13th then? 😂

Arnaquer · 11/09/2022 08:52

Grow up. Wales is completely propped up by central government taxes. We wouldn't last 5 minutes with Dripford completely in charge.

GreenL6 · 11/09/2022 10:49

there’s a typo on the petition with 14th century which is a shame. Maybe they can correct that but I’m fully behind this petition. It’s a wrong from hundreds of years ago that they have the ability to change now, draw a line and stop a tradition that’s clearly putting Wales down and brought about as an humiliation. Now is the perfect time for respect 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 I hope it ends here. If it doesn’t it just creates more divides and votes for Yes Cymru.

Bump

My partner signed and he's English. They can have lots of other titles. It's time for this one to go!

Not enough to cover their own expenses. I’m not being mean, it’s just a fact.
