I have heart failure after having cancer treatment, and it took months to get my HF diagnosis because of delays in testing. My cancer was diagnosed on the two week pathway but what I have now is actually more serious (my cancer didn't spread), but took longer to be diagnosed.

I've name changed for this but I've been around for years.

DH's heart failure diagnosis took months because the GPs he had phone appointments with treated him for everything else (asthma, chest infection, reflux) rather than refer him to cardiology, despite his mum dying from heart failure. He didn't get diagnosed until he was at crisis point and ended up in ICU on a ventilator and in an induxed coma. He died from sudden cardiac death at 42, almost 2 months post-diagnosis. I'll never know if an earlier diagnosis could have saved him but it almost certainly would have helped. It's atrocious that people are having to wait so long - it should absolutely be treated with the same urgency as suspected cancer.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Peachgreen. I can't imagine how hard that was for both of you.

No-one will tell me what my life expectancy is, but I can google, and I'm not an idiot. I won't make old bones, but I've always known that.

My mum died of natural causes but heart failure was listed on her death certificate. She dropped dead in front of my dad and sister. She wasn't young but nor was she old (65)

@peachgreen I remember your threads, I do hope you and your little one are coping as best you can.

Hope you get the treatment you need, my father had HF, when he was eventually diagnosed the doctor just casually mentioned it, his treatment was delayed and he passed away before they did anything, I actually had his cardiologist call me after his death apologising that they couldn’t see him sooner

@TurnipTheHeartBeet During the time DH was ill I met many people who had lived with heart failure for decades or had gone on to have a transplant. I do believe treatment is improving all the time and I hope you benefit from that.
