The WEP women's declaration is signed by members and supporters and those who would like to support us by standing shoulder to shoulder across party lines to protect our sex based rights.

Sign our petition if you wish to show your support too.

This is an important petition. Women across other parties are raising their voices to not have sex based rights eroded. Here members of WEP are following suit - hurray. I remain passionate about the role WEP have to play in keeping Women’s rights front and centre for this GE and politics in general. I hope all supporters of WEP will sign

BeardedVulture · 25/11/2019 07:24

Thanks. I’m a WEP member- joined specifically to try and help correct the TWAW madness in the party.

They’ve been very quiet this election cycle, has to be said...

PermanentTemporary · 25/11/2019 08:16

That's an intelligent approach to the issue. I've signed.

I still think it's extremely disappointing that the WEP has had to have such a fight about this.

OhHolyJesus · 25/11/2019 08:35

So the WEP follow Labour and LDs declaration. Nothing from the Greens but I expect they think their manifesto promise of making misogyny a hate crime would do enough to appeal to the 51% and the Tories don't need to as they don't care about women generally but they are not eroding women's rights. Their manifesto has clearly kicked GRA reform into the long grass and but they are not pushing trans issues.

I'm still spoiling my ballot but I will think about signing this petition. The betrayal is hard to forgive.

APerkyPumpkin · 25/11/2019 08:40

What happened to sisterhood?

It appears that you'd rather just stand on the sidelines and sneer, though, that's a shame.

You have got to be kidding me, this is the 'party' that formed to fight for women's rights and immediately changed that to 'women and men'.

I hope that the women in the party manage to overturn this but if the WEP cannot centre women and girls then what is the point of them even existing?

GeordieTerf · 25/11/2019 08:41

What about sisterhood?

I'd throw that question straight back at the WEP.

Also, emotional blackmail sent a good look.

APerkyPumpkin · 25/11/2019 08:42

It's like:
'We are starting a union to support the oppressed workforce'.
'What about the employers, some of them are oppressed'.
'Yes, we will not forget about the employers, they must be supported at all costs, oh no we can't do X as the employers might be upset'.

Fucking ridiculous.

GeordieTerf · 25/11/2019 08:42

mcduffy · 25/11/2019 09:02

I was a member and had a candidate in my area and voted for them, before I found this board too late and realised that they thought TWAW. I didn't do much research as I assumed (wrongly) that a single issue party would have this stuff nailed down Blush

AnyOldPrion · 25/11/2019 09:26

Having seen how quick transactivists are to leap into action when they see any group that is set up to protect women and women’s rights, it is wholly unsurprising that a political party set up specifically for that would be quickly targetted.

Small parties are susceptible to entryists and I have a suspicion that the WEP probably inadvertently made it easy for anti-woman activists as they probably introduced a system intended to be fair by giving all members power to influence policy.

I suspect unless you elect a leader who is willing to make some significant changes to the way policy is created, you will continue to be susceptible, but thanks for trying.

Clymene · 25/11/2019 09:35

Everything that @AnyOldPrion said. I was a founding member and they stuffed this up. Plus the campaign to allow men on maternity wards overnight is crap.

thatdamnwoman · 25/11/2019 09:40

I was an early member but turned my back once the TWs were welcomed.

I commend those women who've hung on in there and are trying to do something about it, but can't help feeling that having got off to such a bad start the WEP needs to die and we need to start something new, with leaders who don't think that being kind and inclusive is the be-all and end-all of politics.

TowelNumber42 · 25/11/2019 09:55

I agree with APerkyPumpkin and thatdamnwoman

The failure was so fundamental and so early that it is unrecoverable. Fold. Let someone else set up a new party having learned from WEP's massive mistake.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/11/2019 09:56

I am deeply mistrustful of the WEP. You had your chance and you muffed it. Frankly, I see your petition as nothing more than gathering names of those nasty TERFs. I won't be signing.

This. I also emailed my local WEP and they wouldn't give me a straight answer on whether they think TWAW (I couched it in a very flat way so they wouldn't know if I was pro/against that statement).

They blew it in the one issue they should have been crystal clear on. Because they were being nice

Clymene · 25/11/2019 10:16

I've also remembered that I asked my local group if they could introduce a range of meeting times as 6pm was quite difficult for women with caring responsibilities and they basically told me that was most convenient to the organisers of the local group so no. Way to be inclusive Hmm

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 25/11/2019 10:20

This. It's unbelievable, in an entirely to-be-expected way.

I was a paid-up member of WEP, but left due to their"TWAW, shut-up, women" stance. Emailed to explain why too, no reply.

Can I sign? Or do you have to be a current member?

theflushedzebra · 25/11/2019 10:25

Their treatment of Heather Bruskell Evans was appalling as well -they threw a thoughtful, intelligent female academic out of the party to placate a born male.

That's hard to forgive.

theflushedzebra · 25/11/2019 10:26

*I will sign though - because we need as many women's names on there as possible - so they can't dismiss it as "only a few" feminists.

Stressedout10 · 25/11/2019 10:42

Tried to sign the petition but it won't let me unless I donate to them is this a scam as I am happy to sign the petition I will not be giving them any money

WEPwoman · 25/11/2019 10:44

WEP is made up of many members and supporters. WEP is no more a "they" than mumsnet is a "they".

WEP are all individuals giving up time and money and energy to demand women's equality.

Some people have a gender identity, that is their own free choice.

All of us are one sex or the other and the Equality Act 2010 must be clear on this. De-certifying sex and imposing gender identity is undemocratic.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 25/11/2019 10:45

I'll sign but I also think it's too late for WEP. It wasn't even a takeover; in her book 'Attack of the 50ft Woman' WEP's founder Catherine Mayer wrote about an openly, explicitly AGP transwoman and still unswervingly stated that he was as much a woman as she was. The rot was clearly there from the start when she showed she was happy for women to be forced into participation in a man's sexual fantasies. Actually I'll backtrack on 'happy'. She was facilitating it.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 25/11/2019 10:49

Mmm, back when I did Twitter I remember being left open mouthed at the antics of one of the male members of WEP. The idea that a party calling itself the WOMEN’S EQUALITY PARTY would prioritise a male persons views and wishes over Heather Brunskill Evans just leaves me clutching my forehead.

arethereanyusernamesleftatall · 25/11/2019 10:53

Just ignore the request for a donation from iPetitions. If you've got past bit where you put your details in and OKed it then you've signed. Just close the window with the request for money - you've already signed at that point.

I agree - I'm not keen on the way iPetitions has worded that page either.

Stressedout10 · 25/11/2019 10:56

@arethereanyusernamesleft
Thanks for that it didn't seem right

WEPwoman · 25/11/2019 11:22

A lot of people believe AGP, as a known sexuality, should not be stigmatised.

There is a major distinction to be made between non-stigmatisation and changing the Equality Act 2010 to make this male sexuality a replacement for legal sex under a label of gender identity.
