Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

Signed and shared.

I am a woman!!

Men are not women.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/03/2018 17:22

Not a woman. Not really very political. Very much in favour of ending bigotry towards transexuals and transvestites (using the terms my transexual cousin uses as they seem clearest).

I still don't think it's remotely unreasonable to suggest that women should be consulted about the implications of self ID.

Signed.

Signed. I’m not having my daughter and friends forced to leave their sport because they are being told it’s them with a problem playing (and losing )against a biological boy.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/03/2018 17:34

Anaphora is not as clever as you think it is

I think when posters start picking on grammar or spelling or the way posts are written it generally means that they are a little out of their depth with the debate

I understand the need to do this...im frequently out of my depth which is why I enjoy lurking and listening to intelligent arguments

I don't necessarily agree completely with rat but she is one of the many posters engaging with the debate

busyboysmum · 12/03/2018 17:35

Is there an age limit on signing? My 16 year old would like to sign in his name. Can he anyone know?

MaximumVolume · 12/03/2018 17:36

Thanks for sharing this link. Really important debate to be had.

Melamin · 12/03/2018 17:38

This bill has the potential to change all our lives, and not for the better.

Share, share, share the petition.

It is only asking for open debate. There is a huge mass of suppressed debate out there somewhere. Let it out!!!!!!!!!!!!

YesItsADebate · 12/03/2018 17:43

I’m rather appalled, but not surprised, that people are genuinely advocating for women not to be consulted on a change to laws that profoundly affect their daily lives and protect some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Bumblebzz · 12/03/2018 17:43

Signed

I hope impact on women’s and girls’ sports get properly debated.

In order for women to have an abortion - to have autonomy over what's happening to their own bodies and lives - we need 2 doctors to certify that "the continuance of the pregnancy would involve risk, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated, of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman."

The current GRC asks that:

you’re 18 or over
you’ve been diagnosed with gender dysphoria (discomfort with your birth gender) - this is also called gender identity disorder or transsexualism
you’ve lived in your acquired gender for at least 2 years
you intend to live in your acquired gender for the rest of your life

and you need to get 2 doctors to agree (as with abortion).

Why does it need to change? If women can't "self-certify" that they need an abortion, why can men "self-certify" that they're a woman?*

Wow that's a really good point. I hadn't thought of it like that before.

SweetGrapes · 12/03/2018 17:45

Signed.

My daughter will need help with personal care her entire life. She needs to have a say in who helps her without being called a bigot.

I am appalled and wtf'ed by the level of silencing. Whatever happenned to free speech and the right to speak your mind?

All I want is a proper public debate where both sides of the argument can be challenged and debated properly.

@MIngerDynasty

Anaphora is not as clever as you think it is

Anaphora doesn't make you sound witty or clever or full of reasons for supporting your argument.

Anaphora is only acceptable for poorly written posts on AIBU and mediocre GCSE English essays.

Anaphora shows a lack of imagination.

Anaphora is a rhtorical device using repetition of a word or phrase at the start of a sentence

Oh right, so you've haven't engaged with any of my valid points because I have a GCSE writing style and NOT because they're right? Wink.

Sure that's why Grin You might want to consider a GCSE debating class.

Thank you truscum Thanks

Men are not women.

DisorderedOrder · 12/03/2018 17:53

Signed. MN is an odd place sometimes, I can't imagine why any woman wouldn't want to be consulted on issues that will affect them, particularly on MN where little boys in female changing rooms causes such vociferous debate but fully grown men gaining access is ok Hmm.

averylongtimeago · 12/03/2018 17:56

Signed. I don't "hate" trans people- in fact the trans people I have heard from about this are not all in favour of self id.
I just want actual women to be consulted.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 17:56

Oh and for the record, I actually think it's a very useful way to write when one hasn't got access to bullet points. So there. Nerr.

Signed. Thank you for this.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 17:58

@busyboysmum if it doesn't say over 18, I'd assume it was fine and sign. He isn't voting he's a citizen asking for a debate.

Lol - exactly!

SuitedandBooted · 12/03/2018 17:59

So this is calling for women to be given a say in something that will affect numerous aspects of their lives, and some posters are against that?

Have to wonder why....Hmm

Mytholmroyd · 12/03/2018 17:59

signed and so have my daughters

DeleteOrDecay · 12/03/2018 18:00

Signed. Not sure why anyone would oppose this to be honest. What's wrong with asking women about something that will affect us?
