I don't like segregation.

I don't like yet another attempt to make a them and us (male female) battle)

I don't like the fact that this is all somehow against women and done by men yet it seems to me to be perfectly non-sexist.

I wish MN would rethink their policy and have an anti-trans forum so those with a real issue with trans people can pat each other on the back and 'worry" about toilets and Topshop changing rooms whilst the rest of us bitch about parking and MiLs and the normal stuff we came here for!

What happens if we have self id, meaning we can no longer have the terms 'men' and 'women' for two classes of people, and one class of person with particular physical characteristics continues to murder, rape, assault, abuse and discriminate against the other class with different physical characteristics?

Will we be able to discuss that at all?

But can't you understand why other women might want sex based segregation? Any situation at all that could pop into your head where a woman might want to be able to state her boundaries when it comes to the opposite sex?

No one here is anti-trans? I’ve never been made to feel unwelcome. No one is anti trans rights, just rightfully pointing out that they are not and should not be classed as the same as women’s rights, or involve stripping women of any of the rights they have.

Perhaps you’d like to participate in our ongoing competition we often run on the feminist boards.

If you can point out a transphobic post/thread that’s been allowed to stand you win a cash donation to a charity of your choice.

Plenty of ‘ploppers’ running in to scream transphobia (and not much else) however, no one has won it yet.

You're perfectly free to leave the trans threads alone and get on with bitching about other stuff. It isn't hard just to ignore the stuff that doesn't interest you personally whilst accepting that other people are interested in it and have found out about it by seeing it in AIBU.

That's funny TIRF, as I'd say it's being unable to see how women are at risk from abuse by men of the proposed changes to the law that really shows a lack of cleverness, wit, reasoned argument, and imagination....

I find it very welcoming actually. Lots of intelligent and witty posters I’m quite in awe of.

It seems to be the one place on the internet at the minute I can talk about my concerns regarding the current trans dogma, and not be threatened or called names for it.

I’m finding this thread a (mostly) great example of how productive actual discussion can be - @ratrolypoly I especially appreciate how you’ve engaged and debated and you’ve made me think differently on some points, so thank you

I genuinely believe that solutions can be found that work for us all BUT only via discussion and open sharing of ideas from every perspective. I’m trying to not become entrenched in my views as I don’t think it’s productive or sensible, so I really appreciate a well-articulated perspective that challenges my own.

So why dont posters want women to have a say in the self ID consultation?

Women have fought hard for rights which address the discrimination and disadvantage we suffer because of our biology - it's not a big ask for us to be consulted before those rights are taken away

I kind of think that given that all this petition is asking for is consultation with women about the whole self id thing, all the debate on this thread seems a bit pointless. It's not of course, its never pointless and it's always good to hear other views, especially outside of the feminism board.

But debate is all this petition is asking for. Just the chance to put across another viewpoint to policy makers. I think in this climate of no platforming and #nodebate, the fact that women have to petition just to get their opinions heard on things that may affect them, says quite a lot about the state of things.

If you agree with self-id I'd think you'd be glad to add your voice to a debate about it. Sign the petition: have your say!

Bizarre how many men people just don't want women to talk or have any input into laws that govern the population. Weird how that just keeps happening.
