Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

The petition calls for

Respectful and evidence-based discussion about the impact of proposed changes and for women's voices to be heard

I'm amazed that anyone could see this as unreasonable. But apparently they do!

Signed.

Signed,

Its not really a trans thread. Its a thread about womens (female people, for those using new definitions that they cannot describe) rights and womens opinions being added to any debate about removal/change of womens rights.

CisPinkHoodie · 12/03/2018 18:13

Well. I've learned something today.

The existence of something called anaphora. I've used it in the past but never known that's what it's called.

DarthArts · 12/03/2018 18:20

Another one bemused by what the possible rationale could be to being opposed to this petition.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 12/03/2018 18:22

Transsexuals hasn't been acceptable terminology for literally years

Actually, a lot of transsexual people have gone back to calling themselves transsexual because of this whole shitstorm with transactivists/transgender. Transgender encompasses a huge range of people, including crossdressers and drag queens. Which (rightly) transsexual people think have nothing at all to do with them.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 12/03/2018 18:22

I actually think it's a very useful way to write when one hasn't got access to bullet points.

It's repetition. Repetition is persuasive writing 101. That's because it's effective. Classic, if you like Grin

I wish people wouldn't criticise perfectly valid ways of expressing ideas. It's shitty debate designed to humiliate and it really does expose your own lack of arguments.

I didn't consent to the term cis. I don't consent to you forcing gender stereotypical roles down my throat. Fuck 'cis'.

Sex segregated spaces are protected under the Equalities Act where there is a proportionate means to a legitimate aim.

But one of the recommendations is that these exemptions be removed completely (I expect, except the primogeniture one, cant have transmen inheriting titles meant for their brothers eh..)

SelfID is a stupid idea. And coupled with the removal of exemptions, bloody dangerous too tbh

Yes, you will now say that the exemptions may not be removed so0 this post is pearl clutching or something. But everything transactivists are fighting for, they seem to be getting. So I fully expect along with selfID will come the removal of exemptions*, and bam. End of sex segregation at all. But yeah, no need for anyone to worry or think it will affect them in any way, eh?

*Again, except the primogeniture thing, which will remain no matter what

As a trans woman of the old school (transsexual) - as in transitioned physically and socially as far as since allows for 45 years - I have signed. As I do agree with the request in the petition and believe the current restrictions to grant 'honorary' women status to trans women should impose tough requirements on the person seeking them. Not to just tick a box and say they are a woman.

They should be seeking a more diluted gender identification act that will grant much more limited rights for the far more limited things they are wishing to do to get those rights.

And the Gender Recognition Act should not be diluted to remove the medical assessment, commitment to permanence of transition and proof of successful integration into society over a period of time currently required before a certificate is awarded.

The act was designed for a small number of people with a clear medical condition. Only around 7000 have registered through the process in 14 years.

Over 500,000 other people who self identify as gender fluid and do not believe there is anything medical about them and it is a free lifestyle choice wish in on the act.

Quite obviously this is a different group of people in my estimation and the sheer numbers alone would significantly effect many women's lives.

For me it is obvious. They should be arguing their own case for a diluted way to get recognised and accept a diluted level of recognition if they are unwilling to or unable to comply with the reasonable and necessary restrictions of the GRA as it stands.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 18:37

Yeah, primogeniture exemption is going nowhere fast.

Has anyone tweeted LM? As a women’s officer, she should be at the forefront in her local area highlighting the need for women’s voices to be heard.

Arealhumanbeing · 12/03/2018 18:44

But I appreciate that stoking outrage is more satisfying than having a debate

It’s actually not that easy to have a debate. MP’s won’t engage, the ones who do are accused of transphobia and/or suspended.

Or you will be no platformed or beaten up.
