Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

Yay! My constituency has another signature, and AFAIK, it had nothing to do with me Smile

Yddraigoldragon · 18/03/2018 19:19

Can’t see much grey on the map now!

BeyondDeadlySiren · 18/03/2018 19:46

Oh brilliant, loads today! Looks like linking it in the Indy has certainly helped!

BeyondDeadlySiren · 18/03/2018 19:47

19 in my city now 👍

NoSquirrels · 18/03/2018 21:33

I am absolutely OBSESSED with Leicester East ... WHY has no one signed???

OohMavis · 18/03/2018 21:36

Someone's done serious campaining in Bristol West.

cloudtree · 18/03/2018 22:08

I'm seeing a group of friends on Friday and would hope to get some more signed up. They largely ignored my whatsapp message but I can bore them to death going on about it until they sign and make them do it whilst they've had a bit much to drink if necessary! Grin

We are in labour transwoman (non surgical) women's officer territory here though..

LineysEggyName · 18/03/2018 22:50

I tweeted the link and had no negative comments at all, and a couple of retweets. I said something in front of the link like, 'important to debate these things I think'.

My Twitter mates are mostly scientist types fwiw; but not all.

imnolaidee · 19/03/2018 06:53

We need to get high profile people to tweet it. I tried to get Julie Bindel and Ricky Gervais to tweet it - they haven't yet...I placed it inside one of their threads so it'll be seen there, but only if opened.

I'll keep trying

Much of the “discussion” on Twitter from trans advocates centres on the legal aspect of self ID being “just getting rid of red tape”.

I’m very very disappointed that a petition just asking for consultation with women is getting such flak. Disappointed but not surprised.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 19/03/2018 12:34

Why shouldn't there be red tape, though.

DLA and PIP is a minefield. Why do people who suffer debilitating disabilities have to jump through hoops while TRAs say they shouldn't? Why the special treatment?

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2018 14:43

so far today there have been about 300 signatures.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2018 15:23

I am going to try and talk about it at school run.

hugoagogo · 19/03/2018 15:28

Crumbs! I think the petition was at 5,500 ish at lunch time, now 6,610! That's massive who knew that many people actually watch gmb?

hugoagogo · 19/03/2018 15:30

Ah bollocks that's crap isn't it? ignore me Blush

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 19/03/2018 18:27

I think we need something like 500 signatures a day to get it to 100,000 by the end of the 6 months. Do they all need to be online? Can you have a partial physical petition?

AlexisColbysFANCYfrock · 19/03/2018 18:54

We’ll get to 10k no bother

But for 100k we need twitterati celebs sadly. I’m not on any social media as can’t bear the stress. But I will do whatever it takes. Need to get our heads together!

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2018 18:56

maybe if man friday takes off it will pick up. there was a lot of publicity over the weekend and it might have inspired some more people to take part.

cloudtree · 19/03/2018 18:57

Given the publicity over the weekend though we haven't gained that many more signatures.

TeenTimesTwo · 19/03/2018 19:02

I have tickets for this week's Any Questions on Radio 4. (Dianne Abbot, Vince Cable, Suella Fernandes & tba ). When you arrive you can submit questions that the producers then pick from.

Would anyone care to help me word a question that raises the issue in a way that might get it selected?

DarthArts · 19/03/2018 19:05

I think one step at a time.

Get to 10k first.

Then try and publicise that on social media.

The key is keeping awareness up and whenever this is covered on radio, tv etc get on social media and post the person on the relevant threads.

Mogleflop · 19/03/2018 19:44

I think to sign a petition you have to be fairly invested.

In this case you have to:

  • see a potential issue ("self id could be misused")
  • recognise it as a significant problem ("here are the ways it already is being misused")
  • get past the basic assumption that someone will tackle it ("what do you mean all parties are accepting this without challenge?")
  • be brave enough to put your name to it ("everyone says it's transphobic, do I want to risk being on the wrong side of history if that website gets hacked?"

And then and only then do you have to actually remember and take the time to do it (including email address verification)

The last step is the easiest. The first few involve hitting peak trans or peak self ID. A lot of people will only be beginning to hear about the insanity.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 19/03/2018 20:50

Is everyone who has signed asking their partner (if they have one) to sign it?
