Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

It's still climbing :-)

We just need to keep up the profile

Fairenuff · 17/03/2018 19:04

DD has signed as has DH. Still working on DS. He agrees with the principle that women should be consulted and that self id could be open to abuse but also has lots of trans friends so is getting their side of the story before he signs.

BiologyMatters · 17/03/2018 19:06

I've signed. It's going up very slowly.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 17/03/2018 19:23

Faire if he gets the side of the story that goes 'women shouldn't be allowed a say in legal decisions massively affecting them' that can only mean that the people saying it see women as second class citizens who can be treated like children and done to for their own good, and that free speech must be denied to those who have opinions that inconvenience an agenda.

Both are truly scary and indefensible positions.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 17/03/2018 19:58

Please do sign the petition to encourage women's views to be heard on potential problems with self ID of gender. Also to share and get your friends talking.

My eldest was the same as yours Faire - but also acknowledged problems.

I explained males do not understand how females have spent their lives using instincts and experience on who to protect ourselves from.

For those unaware. We do not wish potential law saying we are unable to demand female only services when requested (ie smear test) and ability to say we not comfortable when in vulnerable situations around males etc - Just taster, please read up - all political parties are in favour of self ID.

self IID is anyone can say they are any gender with no expectation of any transition surgery.

Has Rupert Everett been approached?

Yddraigoldragon · 17/03/2018 23:08

I have been turning over possible or probable implications of self id - I think I am happy that the vast majority of men have 1. No idea of how/why women feel the need to protect themselves from harassment, and 2. Do not feel the need to prey on or intimidate women.

But, there is a certain percentage of men who will deliberately (or when opportunity arises) try to harm us.

My town had a flasher, it seems a common thing. How much easier would it be to present openly in women’s toilets and not have to explain why they were hiding in the bushes with a grimy mac on?

I used a pay to enter public loo the other day, was just me in there, about 6 cubicles, very quiet area etc would have been very easy for a guy to lurk in there.
The guy hanging round kiddies play areas - now identifies as female so that’s ok then...
There are umpteen potential scenarios bouncing round my head, where current protection is based on a clear understanding of man and woman when using these spaces, with a clear right to challenge where there is a concern.
Lots of potential implications are being raised throughout these threads.
It frightens me....

BingBongSong · 17/03/2018 23:10

Hurrah, 5600 signatures!

Progress has been agonisingly slow today. I'm a bit worried!

NoSquirrels · 17/03/2018 23:16

Hooray for round numbers!

It has been slow today, but it has been quick to get this far so a tapering off before tomorrow’s upsurge is OK, I reckon.

But still no one in Leicester East or Kingston Upon Hull East...

Brilliant- thanks for the stats @Blackeyedsusan because that’s actually not such a dramatic taper ... I feel hopeful.

NoSquirrels · 18/03/2018 00:18

As in - it’s dropping by 100 signatories each day, but with no press attention.

Tomorrow the Mail on Sunday & Sunday Times will cover it - with topless photos perhaps- and we’ll see what happens...

And regardless - there are 6 months for people to get clued up.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/03/2018 00:30

you need to put out a call to lairy leicester next...

imnolaidee · 18/03/2018 07:05

I've tweeted to Ricky Gervais to ask him to tweet it for us. Had to use a sock puppet as my actual Twitter account is a work one. Hopefully, he will and that may well get interest from more press and signers.

BiologyMatters · 18/03/2018 09:29
