Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

😳 I was only asking where the daily mail was last night. The mail on Sunday is a good start 🤞🏻

drinkswineoutofamug · 15/03/2018 08:39

Is this petition on that other parenting site? I can't look as I'm banned.

cloudtree · 15/03/2018 10:02

Answering that would require some brave MNer to fess up about visiting the other site Grin

drinkswineoutofamug · 15/03/2018 10:13

😂

worstwitch18 · 15/03/2018 10:17

Mail on Sunday is a good start. Hopefully some other publication with different readerships as well. Thank you for putting so much effort in YesItsADebate

averylongtimeago · 15/03/2018 10:30

Ok, I've visited the "other site" just now for a look.
A quick search revealed no results for Lily Madigan or all woman short lists, a couple of old threads from mums worried that their child might be transgender and a few other threads about gender neutral toilets. But compared to here, very very little.
BUT a new thread started this morning linking to the petition- No reply's yet though.

NoSquirrels · 15/03/2018 13:15

That's brilliant. Well done that man.

RatRolyPoly · 15/03/2018 13:46

I just wanted to drop in and relay something I just read on another thread, as it was mentioned when I was discussing on this thread pages ago!

Anyway, I mentioned that despite it being recommended by the select committee that the Equality Act be amended that this wasn't being progressed. I'd read it multiple times on the fem boards but a poster here says it was confirmed by their MP (I hope they don't mind me quoting here!):

"Reply from Baroness Williams (Minister for Equalities) includes "The recommendations of the Select Committee are a helpful contribution to the debate on how to improve outcomes for transgender people. However, the recommendations do not constitute Government policy.. The Government currently has no plans to amend the Equality Act 2010 provision relating to single-sex spaces. I assure Mrs XXX that the consultation process will be as broad and as open as possible, and we want to understand the views of all groups on our proposals.""

I hope people find that reassuring :)

NoSquirrels · 15/03/2018 14:02

Thanks @Rat, I think that is reassuring as far as it goes - but that proviso "currently have no plans" is always a bit shaky because once it becomes apparent it's pushing at an open door then a situation can change rapidly. Which is why consultation now with women's groups on an ostensibly minority "trans" issue is so crucial, in my opinion.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 15/03/2018 14:18

Rat I don't find that reassuring, as the Equality Act can stay protecting single sex spaces all it likes - if the government (and the many many agencies busily acting 'ahead of the law') change the definition of 'sex' to 'whatever you feel like calling yourself irrespective of your biology' the damage is done.

You can have a changing room for women that's full of men self identifying as women, and it's still officially 'single sex'. Its a weaselly way around the problem.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 15/03/2018 14:45

The speed with which a generation are being indoctrinated into believing gender is a choice and overrides which sex you were born, is really happening - have a chat with your kids and find our their "belief" that m/f is a choice.

Kids are all talking about it and it is causing confusion as they don't fit the stereotype of girl/boy and think must be the opposite sex.

It isn't policy yet - we are on the way to it quickly if we don't get our voices heard and female explain biological differences are in every cell of our body, not stereotypical outer appearance.

We know what being female feels like, men can only imagine what it is like.

TulipsInAJug · 15/03/2018 16:18

I concur...i teach young people aged 16-18. For the past three years there has been a transgender student in at least one of my classes. Young people are very accepting and pro-trans rights. They haven't thought through any potential implications.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 15/03/2018 16:33

If you haven't signed to get women's voices heard on this issue - please do sign - as per my post above, our kids are only listening to fairytale of 'happy ever after' and no potential problems. Adults have to tune in as this is what is happening on all the teens' internet pages.

CisPinkHoodie · 15/03/2018 16:36

aRespectable

I've spoken to my teen sons about it and I am reassured that they, at least, get what my concerns are about self-ID. Harder to broach with friends though.

AttillaThePun · 15/03/2018 16:39

drinks how did you get banned from The Other Place?

Did you refuse to have a sparkly ticker?

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 15/03/2018 16:40

Pink: that's good - I think parents need to be on the ball and make room for this discussion so that kids aren't just getting a one sided view.

Need to encourage all parents to think about this as the modern day problem we need to discuss with our kids - could have been any number of other things in the past - but this is the issue of the day. Parents have to catch up fast.

Melamin · 15/03/2018 16:53

I knew nothing about this - thought I had instilled good values in my DC - my DC went off to uni - they came back thinking there is nothing at all odd about a non-transitioned MtF stating that they are a lesbian* (yes that uni Hmm ). Words were said but there is nothing I can do about it as they are all growed up and think they know it all. I can only hope that a good dose of RL will sort them.
