Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

Great!

Cosmosgrowinmygarden · 14/03/2018 12:41

Signed. Have also sent link to OH, who promises he will sign. I have also emailed my MP and advised him that I have signed and what my major concerns are.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 14/03/2018 13:02

I had (positive) a reply from my neighbouring mp. I will update if I get any news...

BeyondDeadlySiren · 14/03/2018 13:02

My own mp isn't pro or anti, they're just more concerned with their own pet projects

drspouse · 14/03/2018 13:05

I would also like to write to my MP but they have spoken out in favour of transferring TIM to women's prisons (Labour shadow minister).
Any ideas what I could say to them?

Consult with women on proposals to enshrine 'gender identity' in law

MumOfTheMoos · 14/03/2018 13:53

Sorry Respectable that's what I meant - I should have used 'and'.

Thing is a difference of opinion about Self ID doesn't surprise me but the idea that there should be #nodebate really shocks me. When you get people in positions of influence in the Lib Dems hastsgging #nodebate all over Twitter, I find that the thin end of a very short wedge!

MumOfTheMoos · 14/03/2018 13:54

For the avoidance of doubt, I am very anti Self ID and very pro debate!

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 13:56

Oh yes moos, sorry correcting you, you clearly understand the issue.

Lots of confusing language around this -which is why I'm very new to the debate - the doublespeak has become quadruple speech Shock and no-one understands what any one is saying any more, which is probably the intention...!

MumOfTheMoos · 14/03/2018 14:00

drspouse don't worry about what they think, just tell them what you think!

If 10 or more people write into them with concerns they will know something is going on.

If they haven't put much thought into it (which most of them haven't) it might prompt them to get their researcher/caseworker to look into it - so send some links.

drspouse · 14/03/2018 15:22

I suspect my MP has thought about it though. And isn't anti-self-ID

BeyondDeadlySiren · 14/03/2018 15:45

Dr, do you have someone like Maria miller then?

drspouse · 14/03/2018 16:05

I can message you who it is. They are really nice and have helped us with a county council issue too.

MumOfTheMoos · 14/03/2018 16:31

Well, still write to them because your voice needs to be heard by them and if you're one of a number it might cause them to check exactly what it is they agree with. Or it might not but they will not be under the illusion that everyone agrees with them.

We are an important demographic.

Don't make the mistake of thinking your MP has thought it through more than you have, even if they are a front bencher.

JaimesGoldenHand · 14/03/2018 16:34

Bump

drinkswineoutofamug · 14/03/2018 16:38

I've written to 8 MPs and to Theresa May.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 16:43

I did wonder about writing to other MPs - so they won't just say "return to sender" and not even read?

I'm at home with ruptured foot ligaments currently, so could probably do a blitz on some letters to other local MPs next week, if that's worth doing?

MuddlingMackem · 14/03/2018 17:53

I've written to my own MP and to the neighbouring women MPs with the petition link.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 14/03/2018 17:56

My neighbouring MP replied (within 24hrs too!), respectablebureau

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 17:57

That's good to hear Beyond, I have a project on next week then. Was the response anything other than the usual blah blah?

BeyondDeadlySiren · 14/03/2018 17:59

It was very positive, but I knew it would be because they are known for being against self ID. I've replied to them again today, will update when I get a response :)
