Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

I think that if we are going to ask MPs to debate this we need to start to talk about it in RL. Whilst I am aware that a number of so-called TERFs have been on the receiving end of a backlash and people in the public eye have got into hot water for daring to raise the issue I think that we need to value our right to free speech enough and hope that our friends and family respect us enough to be able to have a sensible conversation in RL and to point to this petition on our social media accounts.

Well done OP. It's hard to raise your head above the parapet on this issue. I appreciate what you are doing.

Signed.

Would love to know exactly how you think you'll be affected by self-ID

Can you really not envision a situation where self-ID might be abused? You don’t see a problem with, say, a male PE teacher self-IDing tomorrow and therefore being allowed, by Law, to tomorrow be standing in a girl’s changing room full of 14 year old girls? What is going to happen at an instutional level - organisations like the NHS cutting waiting lists by telling doctors to self-ID so they can wipe another 40 people off the list to keep in line with averages? Do the rights of the person self-IDing come before the rights of an 85 year old woman to be seen by a female doctor not a man in a suit who says he’s a woman? What about women who have religious reasons not to want a man in a suit touch them in a medical room? Or have to have a man in a suit as a chaperone when actually they wanted a woman?

The persistent offence taken on behalf of the trans community is so bloody boring. Every trans woman I have seen post or have spoken to in real life (not many, I admit) understands the concerns that there are some men who will use self-ID as a means by which to somehow abuse, perve at, touch up, rape women. That is not the same as saying trans women are deviant, perverted or otherwise out to damage or abuse any women they happen to come across. Why is that so hard to understand?

Signed... got DH to sign as well!

And BUMP!

Also I think some people deliberately search this site for "trans" always the first to comment! 🙄 so they can "call people out" get a damn life!

@EleanorXx - why?

NannyOggsKnickers · 12/03/2018 20:52

Don’t engage No

Eleanor is going round trans threads being rude to people. Not worth it.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 20:54

Should that be EleanorXY?

I'd rather not fuck off if it is all the same to you. Ta for the bump though.

Just to clarify generally though, this isn't my petition. Hope I haven't given anyone that idea. I am just a sharer of good things. Maybe I can stick it on pinterest... Hmm

Ignore goady fuckers please (and report)

Opticabbage · 12/03/2018 21:01

Signed. Totally baffled why people would oppose a consultation. Everyone potentially affected should be consulted, ideally.

I know and there is no request for the government to only speak with gender critical women's groups. Many women's groups are happy with self ID, it has to be hashed out.

The government to consult with women’s organisations on how self-declaration would impact on women-only services and spaces, data-gathering, and monitoring of sex-based discrimination.

Just because someone has a penis dosnt mean they are going to do anything untoward with it....

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/03/2018 21:10

Why does something have to happen to be upset?

Why can't women just get changed in front of women and have that privacy

NoSquirrels · 12/03/2018 21:11

Just because someone has a penis dosnt mean they are going to do anything untoward with it

Absolutely true. But someone with a penis is much more statistically likely to “do something untoward with it” which is why some spaces are segregated on biological sex lines. Not “gender” lines.

Would love to sign but not a UK resident.

How did it come to be that women's refuges, pap smear testing services, maternity services, rape counselling, showers, changing rooms, sports, and prison cells are not exempt from biologically male people choosing to be women, but male primogeniture is?

Who does that benefit? 🤔

Frequency · 12/03/2018 21:14

Just because someone has a penis dosnt mean they are going to do anything untoward with it....

100% of rapes involve the use of a penis.

Are we really going to blindly accept TIM with functioning penis' into women's safe spaces? I mean, sure, 90-something% of them are gonna be genuine but what about the rest?

The lengths some men have gone to abuse women, children and vulnerable people (Saville for example), are we to believe that not a single predator is going self identify as a women in order to gain easy access to vulnerable women?

CiderWithRosy · 12/03/2018 21:15

Signed. Thanks for this OP.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/03/2018 21:18

And how are transwomen any safer when the men they are avoiding I'm the men's van follow them into the womens?

LineyOfArabia · 12/03/2018 21:19

Male primogenture and sex segregation for male freemasons should be forfeit too, surely? But yet, not ...

Quite right there should be a consultation. A proper one. Not a 'When this happens, shall be decorate it in rose or fuscia?' debacle.
