Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

@Giles how are transwomen any safer when the men they are avoiding I'm the men's van follow them into the women’s

It’s so odd, this whole thing. Campaign for a third space - yes.

Campaign to take away women’s spaces - what benefit?

Frequency · 12/03/2018 21:25

I would support a third space, especially in regard to prisons, where the inmate has no choice. I do believe that a proportion of transwomen would be in danger if they were housed in a male prison, and I'm no more comfortable with that than I am with TIMs being women's prisons.

DisabledUserName · 12/03/2018 21:25

Signed.
I have transgender friends, I support transgender people's rights to live their lives as they choose. However I absolutely do not support any man that chooses 'self IDing' to gain access to women's safe spaces. Not a chance.

DNAnotGRA · 12/03/2018 21:27

bump

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/03/2018 21:27

Could there actually be a common "enemy" cough men cough

Something we would absolutely stand shoulder to shoulder to name and attempt to fight.

If they weren't so focused on validation and taking everything we have

bellasuewow · 12/03/2018 21:27

Signed and thank you op. Scary how many women on here are against women’s free speech....mediaeval. I have a very privileged life but I have enough intelligence and compassion to see that many women do not want to share private space with men such as sexual assault and domestic violence victims.

NoSquirrels · 12/03/2018 21:28

YY @Frequency. I don’t want vulnerable individuals put in danger. Of whatever sex or gender.

The “toilet issue” for example - unisex toilets would be used by most people, I expect. But the option of a female-or male-only toilet too would mean no one is deprived of options.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 21:29

Just because someone has a penis dosnt mean they are going to do anything untoward with it

So you support the removal of sex segregated space?
Dv shelters, prisons etc?

It’s like the gun argument in the US. Of course most people with a penis/gun won’t hurt someone else deliberately. But 100% of rapes/shootings are committed by people with a penis/gun.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 21:33

Are we really going to blindly accept TIM with functioning penis' into women's safe spaces? I mean, sure, 90-something% of them are gonna be genuine but what about the rest?

I don't think 90% are genuine actually. Not since the definition of "trans" has been broadened to include anyone who isn't a total sterotype of their sex. Genuine trans no longer means anything. You knew someone was serious back when that meant planning or having a gender reassignment surgery.

Removal of privacy is a harm in itself.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 12/03/2018 21:46

.........people on this thread actually arguing that women shouldn't be consulted or allowed a say in potential legislation affecting them?

Wow.

Chief that's an argument for another day, but I outlined my rough position here. But like I say, let's not get distracted, I'm just saying it's not a watertight justification, and yet it's trotted out like it is.

So you brought it up but refuse to elaborate? Brilliant.

Care to comment on my first post? In what way does the link you provided prove women are not oppressed by their biology? From the very start it splits male and female purely based on biological differences

SuitedandBooted · 12/03/2018 22:05

Those of you who are "Meh" about this issue, I presume you are OK with;

Men on All Women's Short Lists
Men accessing positive discrimination schemes aimed at women
Men in women's prisons
Boys at girls schools
Men on all-female hospital wards
Men competing in women's sports

Its not just about changing rooms and bloody toilets.

Women deserve a say on any change to the law that is going to have far reaching consequences for all women and girls

Borrowed from IFancyASliceOfCake!

StepAwayFromGoogle · 12/03/2018 22:07

Anti Self-ID is NOT anti-TRANS. I really don't know why anyone has trouble understanding that.

Signed, OP.
