Yep, my pedant mum has always told us CONtoversy is the correct pronounciation.

My mum is always right on these matters. Whilst there's an enjoyment and smug satisfaction to be gained from knowing what's 'correct' there's also the irritation at hearing people getting in wrong so often.

OMG, my dad went through a phase of saying aloominum. It might have just been to wind me up or he might have been spending too much time talking to Americans. Blooming annoying either way!

Lots of British people say schedule as sKedule now like the Americans instead of sHedule which it one was.

I never knew which was correct; skedule or shedule. So the former is American and the latter is British? I'll have to remember that.
