20 - I am a ruddy genius.

For the maths test I intend to bring in a note from my mum saying I've got my period.

JudyJones · 04/07/2008 23:52

Hateful hyphen! Still 19...

Gobbledigook · 04/07/2008 23:55

20

I expect no less

Gobbledigook · 04/07/2008 23:56

Looking forward to the maths test - much prefer it to 'English'.

Quattrocento · 05/07/2008 00:01

20 from Quattro

Bring the maths test on

cadelaide · 05/07/2008 00:03

Too easy

80sMum · 05/07/2008 00:37

Now that the answer has already been revealed on this question, I feel I must comment.
To hyphenate the term "long-lost" when referring to a brother seems unnecessary. Would anyone really describe their brother as "long"? I think that anyone reading "I've found my long lost brother" would understand the intended meaning. In modern English, the hyphen is now often omitted because the intended meaning is clear without it (as in swimming pool, dining room etc).
Had the sentence in question been "I've found my long lost skipping rope (note the lack of hyphen), then perhaps it could be argued that the meaning might be misconstrued and a hyphen would clarify things.
Guess which one I got wrong

gigglewitch · 05/07/2008 00:43

count me in

SqueakyPop · 05/07/2008 14:26

I got 20. It was disappointingly easy.

20/20.The last question did not have a full stop at the end of the sentence - what was that all about?

detoxdiva · 05/07/2008 15:12

17 I've got an English A-Level y'know

ally90 · 05/07/2008 15:50

omg...I have not a clue...was never taught at school...think there was one lesson on nouns and verbs...think I need to get that book 'eat shoots and leaves'? I'm so but I am relatively good at spellings...and know lots of words and I thought I was good at english...I even managed to get a B at gcse eng lang...how did that happen?! Standards are dropping..........

I'll be back!

horsemadgal · 05/07/2008 16:35

I got 18, sob!
They didn't have onomatopoeia when I was at school. Or maybe I was skiving sick that day.

Dottoressa · 05/07/2008 16:40

I am a lurking pedant, and got 20/20. What amazes me is that there really are people who don't know these things.

Though I dare say Maths people would say the same about my inability to differentiate between sines and cosines...

Barnical · 05/07/2008 17:06

I lurk too... don't post here as I'm dyslexic.. but just to prove a point.. I scored 19
took me a while to read through the questions

VictorianSqualor · 05/07/2008 17:24

Bollocks, I only got 18

Guitargirl · 05/07/2008 17:41

20

Cadmum · 05/07/2008 17:51

Even with 20/20 I am feeling unworthy.

mrsbabookaloo · 08/07/2008 14:17

I'm apalled to admit that I got 18...of course, I could have lied, or not posted at all, but that would be against the spirit of the thing.

I have never spelt necessary wrong in my entire life, but the distractors distracted me. And the hyphen thing...hmmm. Not a good question, IMVHO.

So, I'm going to brazen it out and carry on posting in Pedants' Corner; tis the only place I feel truly at home, even though I have never typed a post on here 100% correctly!

Heathcliffscathy · 08/07/2008 14:23

I am, of course, in.

although you'd never know it from my shocking grammar and syntax on here.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/07/2008 14:23

i'm glad to see some of the pedants got less that 20/20
