Hare's breath

This is a new one on me! Seen on a post as a relative being 'a hare's breath from death'.

OP posts:
Dilbertian · 22/02/2026 07:09

Oh, no, it's only rabbits in there. The hare, I think you'll find, is a much larger mammal.

MyThreeWords · 22/02/2026 07:12

That's such a beautiful mistake that I think it should be officially instated as the correct version.

Whenever I have a near miss in future, I will think of that mystic creature blowing gently on me to save me from a sad fate.

Funnywonder · 22/02/2026 07:15

Sweet Holy Jeez. Yet I can see that it might make a strange sort of sense in someone’s head🤣

BrickBiscuit · 22/02/2026 08:37

Hare's breath is the equivalent in distance of a gnat's crotchet in time.

Seymour5 · 22/02/2026 11:54

I may need some rest bite after reading that.

dudsville · 22/02/2026 11:56

Aw, I'm dyslexic and poorly educated, but this made even me laugh out loud!

DuckBushCityLimit · 22/02/2026 12:05

Oh, that's rather lovely, isn't it? Reminds me of Watership Down and the Black Rabbit of Inlé coming to carry good bunnies off to the heavenly owsla 😭

unsync · 22/02/2026 16:38

I see your hare's breath and raise you a lightly hood! Never a dull moment reading the interwebs, plenty of WTF ones though. 🤨

PleasantPedant · 22/02/2026 19:48
Grin
WonderingWanda · 22/02/2026 19:52

😂 I didn't get this at first, I was thinking it was some muddling up of paint colours with elephants breath which is a Farrow and ball colour.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 22/02/2026 19:53

Brilliant. Does this occur if a hare isn’t available to perform CPR?

Nomorecoconutboosts · 22/02/2026 19:54

@unsync
Could do with some lightly hoods here, it’s difficult to get the heavier hoods dry during the wet weather.

ComeOnJeremy · 22/02/2026 19:56

I love this. It makes me think of Lee Scoresby and Hester dying in His Dark Materials and of Watership Down as pp mentioned.

SixteenFortyeight · 22/02/2026 19:59

@WonderingWanda Elephant's Breath remains my forbidden pleasure in a world which has turned against "white and grey" interiors.
Hare's breath is poetic, OP, I love it!

StrongLikeMamma · 22/02/2026 20:00

🤣

tarheelbaby · 22/02/2026 20:03

Don't take it for granite .. those relatives at deaf's door ...

wishing you every symphony ...

backslashruby · 22/02/2026 20:21

My recent favourite is that some things are so expensive they cost an arm in a leg. It's no wonder someone said they'd had anuff.

thornbury · 23/02/2026 12:06

I'm a massive Watership Down fan and a former rabbit owner, so I kind of like it too- it conjures up all sorts of lovely images. When my time comes, I want a cortege of leporidae escorting me off this mortal coil.

EscapadeVelocity · 23/02/2026 12:37

And then they died.

That sounds exquisite @thornbury my cortege would be all hares trailing wild flowers and thistledown...

RaininSummer · 23/02/2026 12:55

I love that one too. Soft whisper of breath from a magnificent hare.

Thank you for posting this.

crossstitchingnana · 23/02/2026 13:52

I thought it was hare and didn’t know it was hair. Gulp. 😔😬
