Two mistakes in the one product label? Does anyone know if this would be a fault from the central office or just from the branch?

Oh actually it’s three. I missed petits pois!

I once emailed them because they were selling “bowels” in their kitchenware range. They replied that I was wrong!

On my wedding present list in 1987 I put that I wanted a set of "mixing bowels"
I was a very junior doctor at the time and my dad, who brought it up in his wedding speech used my exhaustion as an excuse for my bad spelling! Caused a lot of laughter at the speech.

Nannyfannybanny · 15/01/2026 14:16

A proud pendant here..I have been having gut issues for over a year,so many appointments, endoscopy, now awaiting a colonoscopy. I asked Father Christmas for a new bowel. I didn't get it 😭

TeenagersAngst · 15/01/2026 14:23

Really shocking that the petits pois error is on the packaging. The shelf label managed to get that right.

Central office (used to work there)

similarminimer · 15/01/2026 14:26

@TeenagersAngst - the packaging is correct, shelf wrong.

That's hysterical. I love their commitment to selling bowels.

It's the shelf label that's incorrect, @TeenagersAngst .
Petit pois is 'small pea'; 'small peas' are petits pois.

Actually petits pois is correct - it's the shelf that's wrong.

Now that really IS shocking.

I though petit pois was the correct spelling! I've seen it on other packaging so wonder if it gets used interchangeably (incorrectly).

I really do feel your pain, I’m actually on the sofa with petits pois in my pants!

PendantScorner · 15/01/2026 14:33

@TeenagersAngst , it's a French name and the adjective needs to be in agreement with the noun.

PendantScorner · 15/01/2026 14:35

@Nannyfannybanny, A proud pendant here.. Are you just hanging around in Pedants' corner?

Yes, on reflection I can see they both need to be plural. Gosh, I am horrified by myself.

PendantScorner · 15/01/2026 14:36

No need to be, @TeenagersAngst . I don't see why we need to call them a foreign name anyway. Smile

EyeLevelStick · 15/01/2026 14:39

I have just googled images of petits pois and see that M&S gets it right on their frozen petits pois, Sainsbury’s is also variable, Waitrose and Morrison’s all use the plural.

What is the world coming to?

Chewbecca · 15/01/2026 14:43

Do you think there could be some vegetable related office joke going on?

helplessbanana · 15/01/2026 14:49

If we're going to be really pedantic... do we think 'Dine in' should be 'Dine-in'?

PendantScorner · 15/01/2026 14:51

No.

Borgonzola · 15/01/2026 14:53

Spotted in Waitrose the other day: ‘portabella mushrooms’

I just looked in my freezer and Sainsbury's Taste the Difference calls them Petit Pois. It's so bad when you actually think about it because no shop would ever sell a package labelled Garden Pea or Chip for example.

Actually this is a case of Portabella and Portobello both being acceptable spellings for the same variety, according to the Mushroom Council (who knew there was such a thing?)
