An Instagrammer I follow was talking about things related to her pregnancy and declared her partner as… ‘the phantom of all knowledge’ - should I say something or not?

I wouldn't. She either won't care or she'll blame autocorrect. And maybe her husband is a ghost and then you'd look silly.

JudgeBread · 24/12/2025 09:45

Oh see that's quite a cute mistake. I wouldn't point it out.

Mydadsbirthday · 24/12/2025 09:47

lol this is a new one!

Urgh, it's not cute - maybe from a primary school kid yeah.

Please point it out OP or this will snowball!

TeenagersAngst · 24/12/2025 10:06

She was definitely complementing him, so not a sly dig at him being useless (which would have been a clever play on words).

SPaG on IG and TT is generally pretty abysmal with the odd exception. I hate correcting someone I don’t know, it just feels a little mean-spirited to me. That’s why I come here, it’s my safe space!

We're not supposed to correct, are we? I think it's in the rules. Yes, I have been a bit guilty, but not much.
Depending on the subject et cetera it might sometimes be possible to correct subtly by responding to a post and managing to use the same words except that you write the correct one.

When I talk about rules I mean Mumsnet rules. I don't do Instagram so should keep my mouth shut and go out and get some holly.

If someone corrects a mistake they may face reaper cushions! (I saw that one yesterday and it made my day!).

😂

IMO the best approach is to do what we do with kids - just model the correct spelling/grammar/usage.

I like it (can you tell?)

DeanStockwell · 24/12/2025 13:35

Is there such a thing as a 'new classic' ?
Surely it can not be both new and classic.
😁

EvilParsnip · 24/12/2025 13:47

It's really quite splendid.
And so are reaper cushions!

CountingQuiche · 24/12/2025 14:04

Gah! ReaperCushions is the perfect new user name, but someone has beaten me to it.😡

MaarvaCarassi · 24/12/2025 14:16

Is that like a British equivalent of the European Krampus decorations - or even the man dropping a steaming great turd in the corner of the stable?!

Just accept it in good grace that you lost out this time and move on with silent dignity.

We really don't want there to be any further reaper cushions.

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 24/12/2025 14:37

It's actually A Thing!!??!!

Just saw a new classic…
DeanStockwell · 24/12/2025 15:06

@Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService ha ha ha now whenever DH/DW /DC does something wrong you can yell THERE WILL BE REAPER CUSHIONS and fling that at them .🤣

TakeTheCuntingQuichePatricia · 24/12/2025 15:08

But then the person will surely think that you don't know how to spell if they see it 😁

I love reaper cushions and phantom of all knowledge - brilliant 😄

I saw "What a lovely jester" the other day, after someone had done someone else a good turn.
