She was definitely complementing him, so not a sly dig at him being useless (which would have been a clever play on words).

SPaG on IG and TT is generally pretty abysmal with the odd exception. I hate correcting someone I don’t know, it just feels a little mean-spirited to me. That’s why I come here, it’s my safe space!

We're not supposed to correct, are we? I think it's in the rules. Yes, I have been a bit guilty, but not much.
Depending on the subject et cetera it might sometimes be possible to correct subtly by responding to a post and managing to use the same words except that you write the correct one.

When I talk about rules I mean Mumsnet rules. I don't do Instagram so should keep my mouth shut and go out and get some holly.

If someone corrects a mistake they may face reaper cushions! (I saw that one yesterday and it made my day!).

IMO the best approach is to do what we do with kids - just model the correct spelling/grammar/usage.
