It isn’t secketary.

It is SECK-RE-TARY.

It doesn’t matter if you’re the Home Secretary or the Foreign Secretary, you are not a Secketary.

It’s going to be a long night.

Badly educated.

My ex was always banging on about how great his could NOT be bettered private education was compared to my utterly shameful state education, but he still called his mother the matriack of the family. And ate like an animal in the zoo. Actually, that's an insult to animals. And zoos. I had to replace the carpet when he left.

I started listening to a programme on the radio a while ago about battries. I had to switch it off in the end. My throat was sore from shouting "It's battEries, you fuckers!". There's that state education for you Easter Grin

Oh I wasn't comparing private with state. I was just comparing a bad education with a good education.

As was I, @Lifeinthepit Wink

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 10:41

@HotBathwater , RESTAURATEUR | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary

Onlythecrumbliest · 06/09/2025 10:51

And there is no Q in coupon! I keep hearing this everywhere.

TheSepticInMe · 06/09/2025 11:32

I'm hearing people say machismo with the ch like in chips quite a lot these days.

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 11:44

@TheSepticInMe , the dictionary says both are correct. I always thought it was 'mackizmo'.

TheSepticInMe · 06/09/2025 12:02

Me too @Pedant5corner , I didn't realise both were correct, thank you. The old ways are the best.

superbakedpotato · 06/09/2025 12:10

This winds me up every time I watch PMQs

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 12:42

@superbakedpotato , will it still wind you up?

Not a comment specifically aimed at Angela Rayner, but the cap certainly fits 🤷🏻‍♀️

Poor girl, she's getting it from all angles today!

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 13:07

The media had it in for her. I had mixed opinions about her, but I admired her for what she had achieved.

The media also gave Teresa May a hard time, and they don't like Kemi Badenoch.

I wonder what's the connection.

superbakedpotato · 06/09/2025 13:13

I don't have an issue with Angela Rayner, it's not the worst that's been done by cabinet MPs, and a not all would have the decency to step down tbf.

But hopefully we can agree that Liz Truss deserved what she got after absolutely tanking the economy and being upstaged by salad 😆

😂 Where is the Q in coupon? Is it Que-pon? Cue-pon?

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 13:29

I deliberately didn't mention her, because the media did not IMO have it in for her, until she had brought it on herself.

I'm not sure that AR actually did anything wrong other than say she'd been advised when seemingly she hadn't.

The one I should have mentioned is RR.

She did overvalue (or get someone to overvalue) her house at double the value. And then use her son's compensation to buy her share out. I think that's pretty dodgy?

Pedant5corner · 06/09/2025 13:47

Yes, I agree, and as Housing Minister she should have known better.
Buying a flat in Hove when you work in London and your constituency and children are about 250 miles away was a bit suspicious.

Memberofstaff · 06/09/2025 15:06

The announcement in our local library says " the whole LieBrary will be closing at ..."

Gives me the rage.

NoisyMonster678 · 06/09/2025 15:35

Skellington

In Scotland it's gar-rij.

LOL. I have such a clear memory of my poor Scottish mum saying (in affected RP), “there’s a Rowan growing in the garage under the clouds”.

Mymiddlenameiscynic · 06/09/2025 16:04

Oh and I saw a sign recently in a shop ‘cash paiments only’

🙄

muddyford · 06/09/2025 16:09

I keep seeing on MN 'peaked' instead of 'piqued '.

muddyford · 06/09/2025 16:10

DH says 'cuttle-ry'. I say 'cutlery '. He doesn't lay the table now...
