On a FB thread about someone with a child in crisis. I don’t think it’s a typo.

OP posts:

I’ve just seen someone on another thread talking about a negligent risk something will happen. I didn’t want be the dick
that pointed it out but came over here to roll my eyes…

Sometimes I reply to a post mainly to model correct spelling or usage (rather than explicitly pointing out the error) and hope they catch on.

Ha ha. Better than writing frostbite. Things like this make me 😃

If you think that you’ve got another thing coming

RimTimTagiDim · 26/08/2025 10:13

It's used on here all the time (alot?), surprised you haven't seen it.

Nevertrustacop · 26/08/2025 10:14

Please, please please... What's an egg corn?

PendantScorner · 26/08/2025 10:23

It makes me think of a time you might like a sit down and a snack. Someone call Kit Kat I've got their new marketing slogan

It's usually typed by someone at their wits end with exhaustion so I try and give it a pass.

Some of the others though...

It's usually typed by someone who thinks you just ring up the nice service and viola! you get alot.

Shaming people less educated than you is not a great look

I'm pretty sure that particular one will be autocorrect/predictive text messing things up; it constantly messes with my perfectly correct writing, substituting what it apparently deems I should've written. <--- It just did it twice there, changing deems to seems.😡😡

If you don't pay attention it literally changes what you've written! Drives me mad. LEAVE MY COMMENTS ALONE!!

There's a second-hand furniture shop in a town where I used to live called Chester Drawer's!

I presume they must have done it on purpose, as if they genuinely believed that to be the name for one specific kind of furniture, why would they deliberately make it sound so limited when they sell all kinds of furniture?!

It would then also be an oddly boring shop name, too: like just calling your shop 'Wardrobes' or 'Dining Chairs'.

Edited to add: the town is nowhere near Chester, where I concede the unwittingly-used pun might have made a lot more sense!

Edited

Including the godawful apostrophe?

Omg. How embarrassing. You mean eh wallah. It's French

persianfairyfloss · 26/08/2025 13:20

Damn.

Eh wallah?? Please say you haven’t really seen that, not in real life? Christ on a bike.

Yes, that's an old one. Just awful.

I see this a lot but they get a pass because usually they need a break (as do I).

Definitely seen it on here.

It’s the cue/queue/que ones that annoy me. And faze/phase/phrase. Those are three different words, people.

Firstly, this is Pedants' Corner, so of course people are going to point out basic spelling errors. There are an incredible number of stupid people on Mumsnet judging by their appalling spelling.

Secondly, every single one of these is so basic a primary school-aged child would be able to spell them correctly. If you look up year 6 spellings you will see the words a child of that age should be able to spell. So it's not lack of education that makes these people spell badly, it's that they simply don't care and set themselves very low standards, which is far worse in my book.

marshmallowfinder · 28/08/2025 23:48

Didn’t one of little mix put it on a SM post and then try to deny it…?

TeacheeTeacherson · 29/08/2025 00:05

My new favourite on here recently was when the OP said ‘it’s like Jaqueline High’ and went on to explain that that means when a person acts differently in different situations.

everychildmatters · 29/08/2025 00:05

@Anna20MFG Like what you did there re the missing apostrophe 😀

SquishedMallow · 29/08/2025 00:10

God the Facebook posts 🙈 my latest boiling point is reading "aww his tall!" "His going to be the next superstar!" You mean he's!!!

Anyway, I digress. Restbite used to be the name of my old canteen back in the day. Which I think accelerated the assumption that Respite= restbite. Not good for a pedant!
