Ishue or Isue? Tishue or Tisue?

On the back of the schedule thread - Help a non native speaker

I know a guy who used to feel very 'posh' when saying 'isue' and 'tisue' and he would repeat the 'correct' spelling after ppl used the sh version

I've also heard someone saying 'nurshery' (nursery)

Definitely don't pronounce the 'h'

I think iss-you sounds pretentious. As does appreCEEate. Also restoran’ for restaurant.

I have an irrational hatred of the 'iss yoo' pronunciation. It makes my skin crawl.

I neither know nor care whether it's correct or not, but every time someone says "iss-you" I like them a little bit less.

but I don't pronounce the last t in restaurant because it sounds wrong to me. Like saying RenALLt instead of Ren-o.

I think iss-u sounds a bit old fashioned and affected.

I think app-ree-cee-ate and neg-o-cee-ate are perfectly fine though.

Never ever heard 'nusery' pronounced with a SH sounds.

ISH-oo / ISS-yew and TISH-oo / TISS-yew are both generally accepted.

Nursery with a 'shh' sound is very, very wrong - not a matter of accent/taste.

I'd have bopped him on the nose if he'd 'corrected' me.

Lots of us also say vej-table instead of veg-eh-ta-ble. It's just preferred pronunciation, or laziness, one or the other 😁

There’s also FebYOUary February, although I suspect the YOU is the correct one.
