Do you say lavatory, loo or toilet?

I continue to say the two former terms, although most people in Australia would only say the latter or 'dunny' or 'toot'.
What do you say and does it depend on the company you are in?

Loo almost always. Toilet when asking dd if she needs to go (newly out of nappies). Lavatory absolutely never (except in jest).

Loo.

Apparently Jilly Cooper once heard her young son admonishing a friend "in our house we say loo and we're not allowed to say toilet. Mummy thinks that toilet is a worse word than f*ck"

TigerFeet · 01/01/2008 22:42

toilet

loo sounds a bit twee imho

although generally say "I'm off for a wee" if I need to comment on the occasion

dh says shitter or bog

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 01/01/2008 22:44

"just off to squeeze me peach"

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 01/01/2008 22:45

Not really. Well, not often

Got to be loo

Twinklemegan · 01/01/2008 22:45

Loo mostly. Or "ladies" if I'm out and in company.

IdrisTheDragon · 01/01/2008 22:47

I say toilet

DH says loo

DH's family either say loo or bog. I cannot stand them saying bog (not sure DH can either). Always surprises me that they do tbh

Tinker · 01/01/2008 22:47

bog

Stepfordsroastingonanopenfire · 01/01/2008 22:48

Bog.

And the other three, from time to time. Also Ladies when in restaurant. What's wrong with toilet, anyway? It is one, afer all - can someone explain why some people think it's wrong?

Sixer · 01/01/2008 22:50

Toilet. That's what it is isn't it?

But... if I'm asking, it's the loo

Ineedaholiday · 07/01/2008 17:19

Normally toilet, or Im away for a pee.

southeastastra · 07/01/2008 17:20

powder room

pyjamagirl · 07/01/2008 17:20

loo

Ineedaholiday · 07/01/2008 17:26

I never realised that toilet was common or that people didn't like it. It says toilet on the toilet doors and you sit on a toilet dont you or does it have a proper name. hmmm off to google toilet and do common people things

Ineedaholiday · 07/01/2008 17:29

Why am I reading Wikipedias definition of toilet instead of making dinner or is it tea? That could be a whole new thread.

Vacua · 07/01/2008 17:32

loo

do not see what is wrong with lavatory, would say it more often if it didn't attract accusations of poshness from my children

Vacua · 07/01/2008 17:33

broc spears - think the actual quote is 'pardon is a worse word than fuck'

Quattrocento · 07/01/2008 17:35

loo

and I don't believe that our resident magistrate calls for a "shitter break"

Unfitmother · 07/01/2008 17:35

Loo

Cremolasnowdome · 07/01/2008 17:39

Toilette dahling!
