It's not a fucking acronym. What on earth do people imagine it stands for?

It’s not meant to me an acronym , nobody thinks it is. We all know it’s just short for maternity, you know like Matt and Mathew.

There's a statutory form labelled MAT B1, so I blame that.

Pretty sure the OP is fully aware it’s short for maternity leave, they appear to have an issue with it being written as MAT rather than mat... Can’t say it’s something that has ever occupied my thoughts much 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh, I thought that was clear from the OP. Now I realise people haven't been differentiating between the use of MAT or mat.

In my opinion it's really weird to capitalise an abbreviation. I don't say I'm going to watch CORRIE on the TELLY.

Yes, I imagine that it's the fact that it's written in capitals, as it would be if it were an acronym, that's annoying the OP.

To me MAT is an acronym for Multi Academy Trust.

Op is saying that when you abbreviate a word it should not be capitalised.
(Re - regarding; Mat- maternity etc)
