I keep seeing 'chocked' and in my mind all I can see is someone choking on a giant wooden block

How do people not know that adding the c totally changes the pronunciation? Where does the c come from? Why would you think it's needed?

Someone in my old school Facebook group has posted a photo of an old school teacher with the comment 'Miss William's, my form teacher'. People using apostrophe s for plurals is one wrong thing, but using one in someone's actual name?

In found the quickest way to annoy all your new colleagues is to point out that the elderly residents are not 'at high risk of chocking'

Maybe those people who can't spell choked have 'never seen it written down" either.

Add 'stocker' instead of 'stalker' to that list too - obviously come from hearing it wrong, but still...

Chocked means to shove a bit of wood under something to stop it moving doesn’t it? Although I don’t know if that’s a verb or just a noun.

Pah! Facebook. I've got three kids who go to two different schools. I don't think I've had a single letter from either in the last 14 years or so that hasn't had at least one spelling mistake, punctuation error or grammatical howler in it. Most of it in fecking Comic Sans too.

‘Chocks away, chaps’ My father had been an RAF pilot and it became a family in joke to say it before driving our overladen car off on holiday. (Chocks being the wooden wedges in front of the aircraft wheels to stop it moving before taxiing )

You don't need to, surely, unless you've gone through life without reading anything at all? After all, no-one (I hope) spells bloke as block, or poke as pock, or broke as brock; no lone seriously believes that you pronounce "locking" as "loking" or "rock" as "roke".
