I keep seeing 'chocked' and in my mind all I can see is someone choking on a giant wooden block Confused

How do people not know that adding the c totally changes the pronunciation? Where does the c come from? Why would you think it's needed?

To choke
I choked
He is choking

Just 1 c!

Lol.
But doesn’t God have a capital ‘G’ and wouldn’t it be ‘for God’s sake’?
I agree though - who has ever chocked?

Veterinari · 07/04/2020 20:56

Quite probably @Mouthfulofquiz
I'm very happy to be corrected - not sure I've ever written it before Smile

I hate it too. I alse hate Loose instead of lose. They are two different bloody words! Two very different meanings.

Scotstar · 07/04/2020 21:15

I bet you defiantly hate the phrase Chester Draws pacifically too 😂😂😂

Veterinari · 07/04/2020 21:19

@Scotstar
You aren't funny

People not understanding the difference between Infer and Imply gets on my tits.

Scotstar · 08/04/2020 17:30

I thought it was witty lol

Someone in my old school Facebook group has posted a photo of an old school teacher with the comment 'Miss William's, my form teacher'. People using apostrophe s for plurals is one wrong thing, but using one in someone's actual name? Shock

PorpentinaScamander · 09/04/2020 23:18

In found the quickest way to annoy all your new colleagues is to point out that the elderly residents are not 'at high risk of chocking' Grin

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/04/2020 23:20

Maybe those people who can't spell choked have 'never seen it written down" either.

IsabelleSE19 · 09/04/2020 23:24

Add 'stocker' instead of 'stalker' to that list too - obviously come from hearing it wrong, but still...

EugenesAxe · 09/04/2020 23:26

Chocked means to shove a bit of wood under something to stop it moving doesn’t it? Although I don’t know if that’s a verb or just a noun.

PurpleDaisies · 09/04/2020 23:27

“Reign it in“ is irritating me at the moment.

Pah! Facebook. I've got three kids who go to two different schools. I don't think I've had a single letter from either in the last 14 years or so that hasn't had at least one spelling mistake, punctuation error or grammatical howler in it. Most of it in fecking Comic Sans too.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 09/04/2020 23:37

Been instead of being.

Wonder instead of wander.

'I wondered lonely as a cloud ... '

Shock
Ciwirocks · 09/04/2020 23:40

My pet hate is when people post ‘asking for advise’ no you are asking for advice!

conduitoffortune · 09/04/2020 23:43

Upmost

I read an 'another words' instead of 'in other words' recently on Facebook

Defiantly instead of definitely

Rest bite instead of respite

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/04/2020 23:46

My pet hate is people who don't use commas correctly.

whitedogpoo · 09/04/2020 23:49

Sarcy Confused I presume it means sarky?

PorpentinaScamander · 09/04/2020 23:53

@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden my ds 2 'wrote' a book when he was about 6. It was the plot of Titanic. Jack and Rose spent a lot of time wondering around the ship Grin

JellyfishandShells · 09/04/2020 23:54

‘Chocks away, chaps’ My father had been an RAF pilot and it became a family in joke to say it before driving our overladen car off on holiday. (Chocks being the wooden wedges in front of the aircraft wheels to stop it moving before taxiing )

JudyCoolibar · 09/04/2020 23:54

You don't need to, surely, unless you've gone through life without reading anything at all? After all, no-one (I hope) spells bloke as block, or poke as pock, or broke as brock; no lone seriously believes that you pronounce "locking" as "loking" or "rock" as "roke".

Miljea · 09/04/2020 23:55

I think your all nastie.

JudyCoolibar · 09/04/2020 23:55

See also discrete instead of discreet. For some reason, it's mistake most often made by people moaning about breastfeeding in public.

aliasname · 10/04/2020 00:01

A pertinent one at the moment ~ the difference between flaut and flaunt

You FLAUNT your Japanese-style decorated mask with diamond studs.

You FLAUT the lockdown rules by walking the dog twice a day.
