I have just discovered this section - I am now officially addicted to MN. I will be on here all the time, day and night. I am a pedant and proud! In fact I might make a badge saying that. I would begin by stating my pet hate - but there are so many I don't know where to start... After a think I it has to be 'could of, should of, would of' Angry

@BikeRunSki

Ah.

An incommodious building, then - therefore a most unfortunate resident, who probably lives near my old house.

MikeUniformMike · 20/09/2019 11:47

A lair of layers in a Chester draws.

Chester draws in tge local derby with Chesterfield. (Thanks Des Lynam)

MikeUniformMike · 20/09/2019 11:47

the not tge

TheMustressMhor · 20/09/2019 11:53

Chester draws in the local Derby with Chesterfield

Is this an actual fixture?

MrsFezziwig · 20/09/2019 15:07

Mustress you need to move on to the next thing. (You can see that I’m onto you!)

MikeUniformMike · 20/09/2019 15:18

No, and it was derby not Derby.
The joke is that Chester and Chesterfield aren't near each other. I can't remember if it really was a draw.

Chester draws against Wrexham might be.

TheMustressMhor · 20/09/2019 15:30

Enough football already.

So you are on to me MrsFezziwig?

Do I need to emigrate?

Apileofballyhoo · 20/09/2019 15:52

It's not it's unless it's it is. It's its if it belongs to it. Happy I've got it off my chest.

TheMustressMhor · 20/09/2019 16:11

This is a good one:

Think of the damn that nearly collapsed.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/09/2019 16:49

toddlers were next to her, but on reigns

From another thread on here.

Interesting the OP had used the correct spelling - reins - but several people who mentioned her post wrote "reigns". They hadn't copied and pasted - they had used the wrong word.

Sometimes this is the Demon that is Autocorrect*. Sometimes it isn't.

*I hate autocorrect - I wish I could find a way to switch it off. In the Good Old Days When I Had The Figure Of A Nymph And All Round Here Was Green Fields, you just got a warning line beneath a mis-spelled word (or random combination of letters). This alerted you to the fact that there was an error in spelling or grammar and you could put it right.

Now autocorrect decides what to post, and because it chooses real words, and ignores grammar, we get some stupid errors.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/09/2019 16:50

*Interestingly, not Interesting.

The Autocarrot strikes again. Angry

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/09/2019 17:23

And from another thread . . .

It sounds like in a discrete place under a tree

missmouse101 · 20/09/2019 18:25

I have seen "sitting on the thrown..." Oh please!

I also think the use of 'your' instead of 'you're' is now so widespread that we have lost the battle. If I see it whilst reading, I immediately stop and go no further!

MikeUniformMike · 20/09/2019 19:22

Their trying to get there words rite you no.

MikeUniformMike · 20/09/2019 19:22

Soz meant too not to. Grin

TheMustressMhor · 21/09/2019 09:04

tell him to cloth his own kids

...from a thread about an ex-husband who cannot seem to do his DC's washing.

TheMustressMhor · 21/09/2019 09:05

I immediately stop and go no further!

That's the true Dunkirk spirit, MissMouse.

TheMustressMhor · 21/09/2019 09:21

I only want my hair done occasionally and more than one pair of holy jeans

I wonder if the Pope would authorise some holy jeans for me, too.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/09/2019 08:12

From MNHQ on another thread, following long post:

So, to upsum:

Never come across that before, do we not like "So, to sum up?"

TheMustressMhor · 22/09/2019 16:34

I thought cutting stuff you shouldn't cut was a right of passage

Mmm, so did I.

MikeUniformMike · 24/09/2019 16:05

low and behold.
redic and rediculous

TheMustressMhor · 25/09/2019 12:50

Ha!

@MikeUniformMike has mentioned "ridiculous" at last.

"Defiantly" instead of "definitely" is another nightmare.

WombleOwl · 25/09/2019 13:07

I'm surprised that so many people still use would of could of should of, given the number of memes and corrections by others. I think they genuinely think they're correct and we are wrong.

MrsRufusdog789 · 25/09/2019 13:30

I hate "got sick" as opposed to "became ill"

Painting a "pitcher " and " droring"
"Refuge " rather than " refuse"
And as for the nearly correct apostrophe catastrophe:
Hard dog's balls
Lead's for dog's

The hard dog's balls has to be my favourite. Local market a rich source of material . Especially the greengrocer .

Cauliflower's - what - ears ?
