I'm sure you've all got your particular teeth-clenching, fingernails-on-blackboard nemesis.

Today's offering: they did "drawring" in Art.

I will break him of that habit. I will!

Agent DS at 3yo came home from an afternoon at my MILs demanding 'pongy - granny juice'. It took me a very long time to work that one out. I couldn't even ask MIL for help for fear of insulting her Grin

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2017 09:40

:)

DaffodilsAndCrocus · 10/03/2017 09:40

I think spoken language is still mostly local and as such it's non bothering to me to hear variation in daily speech. Writing school newsletters should be on another level!

I was pointing out to my son Charlotte Green's clarity of speech on the BBC radio classified football results. He said he thought it was a computer talking! He is of the generation that take Stephen Hawking's voice for granted.

troodiedoo · 10/03/2017 09:43

Spag bowl instead of spag bol Angry really rubs my fur the wrong way.

ScrambledSmegs · 10/03/2017 09:44

My dad says tuth for tooth. He's about the most un-welsh sounding welsh person ever, which makes it all the more jarring when he says it.

It's not really a mispronunciation I know, but it's always a surprise when he says it and I'm in my 5th decade now!

DaffodilsAndCrocus · 10/03/2017 09:45

My grandad said tuth, Midlands.

ScrambledSmegs · 10/03/2017 09:47

Lye-berry is one that annoys me with my kids. I sing 'here we go round the lye-berry bush' and they roll their eyes at me.

They also say Feb-ry. FFS.

ScrambledSmegs · 10/03/2017 09:49

My dad normally sounds like Bertie Wooster!

Not sure how, because the rest of us don't. Think it was working in his profession that did it, they all seemed to sound like that at one time.

Tubbyinthehottub · 10/03/2017 09:54

Hospickle and lickle Angry. And Wimslow, it's Wilmslow!!

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 10/03/2017 10:16

About Sudoku, I get that it's Japanese, so, unless you speak Japanese, you won't know exactly how to pronounce it. But FGS can't people just read it? It says sudoku, not suduku, or, worse yet, suduko.

banivani · 10/03/2017 10:22

Well, with my method it's easier to let it go. ;)

CheesyChristie · 10/03/2017 10:27

Dh says 'pro-ject' instead of 'prodge-ect'. I'm feeling very emotional atm and it made me cry when he said it the other day.

Llamacorn · 10/03/2017 10:28

Prostrate instead of Prostate really really annoys me. Oh and dd says rully instead of really, which drives me mad!'
Also when people say crips instead of crisps.

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 10/03/2017 10:48

Very difficult for a pedant to 'let it go'. Hence the creation of Pedants' corner. Grin

I find that "compassion for all living things" thoughts help!

Only primary school official writing can pierce that..

highinthesky · 10/03/2017 10:51

ARKS instead of ask.

Is it really that difficult?

LapdanceShoeshine · 10/03/2017 10:57

80sMum DIStribute and CONtribute aren't wrong - they're acceptable variants (though not to you, obv Grin)

Toobloodytired · 10/03/2017 10:58

Accept - except

Your - you are

Friend says Pacific for specific

She also says "winds the shit into me"

Instead of out of.

Megatherium · 10/03/2017 11:02

DH says okshn for auction. I reply pointedly talking about AUCtions, but it has no effect.

banivani · 10/03/2017 11:02

cheesy oh dear! Grin
goodygoody Ah well we can all strive to better ourselves (but I really really wish you'd all stop adding that extra r) Wink

DaffodilsAndCrocus · 10/03/2017 11:03

I remember discovering chimley was a dialect variant. I still don't truly accept it though however much I try.

DaffodilsAndCrocus · 10/03/2017 11:05

My old Dad said Okshun and Westcutt for waistcoat.

PineappleExpress · 10/03/2017 11:09

I know someone who say pro-ject instead of prodge-ect, too.

Adver-tize-ment instead of ad-ver-tiss-ment.
I'm guessing the former is just the American pronunciation, but it really irritates me.

I'm not very good at writing things out like that, but hopefully it makes sense Grin

LineysRun · 10/03/2017 11:09

OH managed to come out with 'communial' the other day. I stared at him, aghast. He looked anxious. I narrowed my eyes. He squirmed. He said, 'That was wrong, wasn't it?' I nodded. Crisis averted.

TheTartOfAsgard · 10/03/2017 11:10

Exh used to say kittle for kettle, remoke for remote, hid for head, paddle for puddle and pingwin for penguin. It may or may not have been a contributing factor for our divorce.
