Any ideas? Want to keep the cost down, don't like the usual crap you get in them and actually disagree with them in principle but don't want ds's friends to have a go at him about having no party bag! Don't mind if it's not a bag, just need ideas for something to take home along with the cake.

Anyone?

DSs have had a couple of party bags from soft play places and they are awful. Particularly the sweet element which had no virtually no natural ingredients whatsoever. The ingredient list read like a chemistry lesson!

I was thinking of including those stars that you can stick to the ceiling and that glow at night. You can get paper ones that are far cheaper than the usual plastic ones.

Thanks Zenia, Gobbldigook & Soupy, will probably add a small Easter egg, maybe a Kinder one with the obligatory plastic crap inside!

I did DD bags for under a £1, I bought packs of gel pens, rubbers and stickers and split them up. Put them in paper cups that I got 25 for 50p in poundstretchers. I finished them with cellophane tied with ribbons (free from my business) and a chunk of cake -big bag of individualy wrapped chocolate covered ones from Tescos. Used a decorated one for cancle blowing and had cups made up. Big cake went home for the family to enjoy.

You don't have to plastic cr*p. DD came home from party today with 2 tooters, 2 mini bags of sweets, 5p bag of crisps, lolly, cheap cup juice, penguin biscuit and a bit of cake FGS they had food at party. A bit of cake and 1 pack of sweets would have been more than enough. I wonder what we did to deserve 2 tooters .

TinyGang · 11/09/2005 00:10

One for you to join in perhaps? Those little tooter things go right through my head - especially when all three get them!

They have disappeared already, strange that . All DD expects is a bit of cake even then if i explained they weren't giving it out she wouldn't bother, she was still amazed that the magician had a real rabbit.

I've been dying to ask your opinions ,so I'm going to be brave and ask you this
Ds is having a pizza party , for the party bags I thought I would give out cake making kits, the ones you can buy in supermarkets. Is this a really stupid idea. I know cakes are easily made without these kits, but occassionally I buy my son one and he loves it . What do you all think

TwinSetAndPearls · 18/09/2005 20:45

I think it is a lovely idea.

I love putting together party bags, at easter we sent the kids away with a planted sunflower seed, at dd third party we did art and craft bags.

Sorry i didn't read the whole thread. DS came home with a book as a party gift. The mum said she got them for £1.50 each. No bags needed, educational and more lasting than other things. The book is a hefty one about dinosaurs, the mum just found them on a sale at Books etc. I think it's a great idea. This is for 5-6 year olds BTW.

TwinSetAndPearls · 18/09/2005 21:14

We are ordering books from the bookpeople for our party bags, ahve about 35 kids coming so we are ordering 40 books. they work out at 50p each and we have earnt points towards other books.

Our table decorations are made from helium balloon so will attach a wrapped up book to a ballon.

I think the cake kit is a great idea. I am inpressed by anything that doesn't make a noise . Bargain books do a good range of cheap books so many for a £5 etc. Or stationery is always a good budget option as you can split packs.
