Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Happy happy birthday to your DD @seeline!

To those who remember the homophobic racist tirade of abuse directed at my DS at a work drinks a month ago, you may be impressed to hear that the firm after an investigation accepted that DS’s complaint was entirely true and in fact downplayed, is taking disciplinary action against the perps, and DS has negotiated an amicable exit with agreed reference and a 5-figure settlement.
He is super relieved as has found it all appallingly stressful. I am very proud of him for doing and saying what is right.

crazycrofter · 30/07/2025 18:06

That’s amazing @Delphigirl ! Well done to him for keeping his integrity and doing the right thing - it’s refreshing to see that rewarded!

ealingwestmum · 30/07/2025 18:06

Such a relief to see justice for a change @Delphigirl, a great outcome, you have raised a fine young man there.

Cantonet · 30/07/2025 18:08

That sounds absolutely vile & I think I missed your original posting but very well done to your ds.Would he have stayed in the job under normal circumstances?

Delphigirl · 30/07/2025 18:15

Thank you all! Cantonet he was feeling rather bullied and unhappy there so making plans to move on, this just accelerated them and made it imperative to go.
Taking control of the situation by making the complaint, and achieving acknowledgment that he had been treated very badly, has gone a long way to restoring his confidence.

Seeline · 30/07/2025 18:32

@Delphigirl what a good outcome for your DS. I'm so pleased he was believed.

EwwSprouts · 30/07/2025 19:44

@Delphigirl Oh well done your DS! Hope he walks a little taller.

NCTDN · 30/07/2025 20:56

Amazing for him @DelphigirlIt would’ve been so easy for him not to push it through.

Delphigirl · 30/07/2025 21:11

Thanks all 💕

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 30/07/2025 21:17

How awful for your DS to go through that @Delphigirl but so pleased for him to get that outcome and be believed. Hopefully that company have learnt their lesson and also got rid of the offenders.

Delphigirl · 30/07/2025 22:08

I think that process will take longer to reach a conclusion @JustHereWithMyPopcorn , and in fact DS doesn’t want anyone to lose their job, he just hopes the toxic environment in the department is dealt with for the benefit of everyone left working there.

Oblomov25 · 30/07/2025 23:00

@Delphigirl
I'm pleased at resolution, but although a 5 figure sum initially sounds impressive it's peanuts to them, compared to the trauma for ds.

I'm so pleased for your DS that he has fought against all this and that the firm has taken some action. You must be v proud of him @Delphigirl

Delphigirl · 31/07/2025 07:31

I really am @craggyrat !

273NewNames · 31/07/2025 07:32

Wow @Delphigirl what a shame your DD had to go through that but well done him for seeing through the complaint.

cariadambyth · 31/07/2025 10:20

What a fantastic young man you have brought up @Delphigirl , I actually find him rather inspirational. Onwards and upwards for him.

Delphigirl · 31/07/2025 11:26

Ahhhh thank you @cariadambyth !

Alwaysplayspicc · 31/07/2025 21:18

That’s so impressive, Delphi. I have an overt sense of justice and cannot stand to see people get away with horrendous behaviour, so I’m thrilled your DS was brave enough to stand up for himself and for what’s right.
He’ll go far in life. 👏🏻

blinkbonny · 01/08/2025 07:51

That’s a great outcome from a bad situation @Delphigirl- well done to your DS. I’m sure his courage in taking a stand will have inspired others in the department: not least the colleague at whom some of the remarks were initially directed (iirc, he stood up for someone else, didn’t he?). Very impressive behaviour- your pride is well placed 👏

Shimy · 01/08/2025 13:03

@Delphigirl I'm high- fiving your boy. Excellent result! we should all encourage our young adults to stand up for themselves and fight for justice. Too much burying your head in the sand and hoping it will go away can lead to severe MH issues long term.

AnneOfCleavage · 02/08/2025 10:16

What an amazing young man you have there @DelphigirlYou must be so proud of him and what a great outcome too.

Alwaysplayspicc · 03/08/2025 12:00

A little bit of good news here.
DD has been applying for various stop-gap jobs to carry her over the next 6-12 months (which she is kind of treating like a gap year, to recover from the pressure of final year uni without meds).
Shes never had a job before, so we knew it was going to be tough, but she got an interview for a stylist’s job in All Saints…and she was offered the job.
Training this week and starts work next.

Its only part time and not much above living wage, but it represents so much more for her.

Delphigirl · 03/08/2025 12:31

Wow that is brilliant @Alwaysplayspicc - well done her! She must be very stylish! I’m sure it will be fab for her MH and also sounds a lot of fun 💕

ealingwestmum · 03/08/2025 13:09

excellent news @Alwaysplayspicc, I hope she really enjoys it, it must have been a great confidence booster for her when she needed it.

crazycrofter · 03/08/2025 15:56

That’s brilliant @Alwaysplayspicc - hope she enjoys it and it will be great for her to get some work experience under her belt and increase her confidence!
