Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Well done @ExtensivelyDecorating DS!!

NCTDN · 24/07/2025 11:33

Good news @ExtensivelyDecorating

i had no idea about the universal theme park. I have two friends who live very near there - can imagine at least one will see it from their garden !! Shame their children will not be teenagers by then.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/07/2025 11:39

Yay, fab news @ExtensivelyDecorating ! 🙌🍾

Thanks for the parking offers! 😄 @mummyinbeds I guess Air BnB is a good idea if you've got to suffer the massive inconvenience of a park that size on your door step.

craggyrat · 24/07/2025 12:09

Great news @ExtensivelyDecorating !

How did it go @ExtensivelyDecorating ? Fingers crossed for good news.

@Piggywaspushed @mummyinbeds @OublietteBravo is this the new Universal studios? I'm quite excited to visit when it opens, can I park on one of your driveways and save on carpark charges? 😁

Oooh oooh can we have a Thread Big Day Out to universal Studios when it opens? I’d be up for that…!

well done to your DS @ExtensivelyDecorating ! So exciting! Freedom!

ExtensivelyDecorating · 24/07/2025 18:21

Freedom for me from having to go out with him to practice every night!

ExtensivelyDecorating · 24/07/2025 18:23

It has been a long haul, 2.5 years, with three different instructors plus a lot of time out with me but as I see it that is hundreds of hours of experience so all good. I used to worry that he'd never be able to drive because of his dyspraxia but his efforts have been worth it.

Delphigirl · 24/07/2025 18:37

I think it is good that it is harder than it used to be. At least you know, when you let your precious child drive out alone for the first time, that they can really drive.

Delphigirl · 24/07/2025 18:38

As you may remember I have lived through something like 15 driving tests from my 4 kids 🤣🤣

ExtensivelyDecorating · 24/07/2025 19:07

<bows down to @Delphigirl >

It's great that they do all the show me tell me stuff now, and the proper parking.

Fab news @ExtensivelyDecoratingCongratulations to MiniED 👏👏🎉👏👏

Oblomov25 · 25/07/2025 07:50

Joins Popcorn and Delphi for Universal-day-out parking barrage. My closest primary school friend lives in B and I visit her often.

I’m afraid I don’t have a driveway. Although I do have spare bedrooms. And you can park for free about 300m away from my house (or at least you can at the moment)!

We went to DDs graduation yesterday. The weather was just gorgeous and the Penryn campus was looking at its best. She stayed down there and went out with friends last night. We drove home, and only got in at midnight. I’m working today but feeling very tired.

Of course big events involving DD are never drama-free. She only realised that she’d forgotten the dress she planned to wear once we’d crossed into Cornwall. So that required an emergency trip to M&S in Truro and resulted in DD being the only female graduate wearing trousers for the ceremony!

AnneOfCleavage · 25/07/2025 09:34

@DelphigirlSlow and steady wins the race. My sis took 5 goes to pass and she is super careful and an excellent driver. It took DD 3 times and she too is super careful and considerate on the roads. I passed 1st time and had an accident in first year which wrote my car off. First time passers aren’t necessarily better drivers.

@OublietteBravoI’m surprised. Play suits seemed to be the more popular choice from what I’ve seen among friends’ DD’s. I bet your DD looked gorgeous and no dress creases as she crossed the stage. Glad she and you all had a lovely day.

Annoyingly DD’s car has had to go into the garage as the airbag light won’t turn off when driving. She’s only had it a couple of weeks. Not sure if the 3months warranty will cover that - we’re hoping so 🤞🤞

Delphigirl · 25/07/2025 09:44

I agree @AnneOfCleavage - dd1 miraculously passed first time and wrote off a car in an accident with a lorry less than 2 years later (her fault - lorry driver couldn’t have been lovelier to her). Others have been fine!!
Graduation sounds gorgeous @OublietteBravo

OublietteBravo · 25/07/2025 09:50

Just adding the DD passed her driving test first time, and wrote off two cars within 18 months (plus there was a third crash that didn’t write off her car).

crazycrofter · 25/07/2025 10:08

Yep, dd passed first time - total surprise, she was a rubbish driver! - and lost her licence just under 2 years later for getting 3 speeding tickets. Ds passed third time but is a better driver - although he drives too fast ( but gets away with it!).

Honestly, this was the thing that had me praying that DS would pass his retest. I was DONE! 😂
