This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Be warned there might be lots of 'Uni Freshers' chat this time of year. My experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

So is dd's house - I hadn't realised it happened in Lenton.

Heifer · 13/06/2023 16:25

On no seems 2 we're students. How dreadfully sad for all concerned.

Gosh, that's so shocking.
Poor families.

blinkbonny · 13/06/2023 17:16

@mummyinbeds My DS is still in Notts too, also was unaware till he got my text. Neither he nor any of his close friends were in town last night but, like for others here, it resonates because the incident took place very close to where his next year house is. I grieve for the families of the students and will be glad to get my boy home.

Heifer · 13/06/2023 17:28

Oh @blinkbonny I bet you had a worrying time waiting for him to reply to your text.
I know it's close to us because of where they will be living but this could have happened anywhere. We had a shooting here on the Wirral at new year, stabbing happen too, lots of things going on in Liverpool too.
Just feeling so sorry for those parents, probably expecting their child home shortly.

PhotoDad · 13/06/2023 17:29

Horrible for all concerned. Shocking to read about it.

mummyinbeds · 13/06/2023 17:52

What an awful thing to happen. It's so random but far too close to home 😢

Comefromaway · 13/06/2023 17:59

It’s tragic. Way too close to home, I don’t think I’ve said but my Niece is a 2nd year at Nottingham Uni. I’m fairly sure she will be home now though.

EwwSprouts · 13/06/2023 18:00

How utterly tragic. My heart goes out to those affected.

Oblomov23 · 13/06/2023 18:02

Ds1 is there in Nottingham till Saturday. Will text him now.

blinkbonny · 13/06/2023 18:04

@heifer you're right it (shockingly) could happen anywhere, but it does hit home more when there's a connection. Hug your (enormous, grown-up) kids tonight if you can, everyone!

ExtremelyDetermined · 13/06/2023 19:01

Just came on to say I am thinking of all those with Nottingham students or other associations with the city, what a horrendous thing to have happened Flowers

NCTDN · 13/06/2023 19:25

I was also coming on here to check all you Nottingham people as I know there's a few of you. Hope your DCs are all ok x

Shimy · 13/06/2023 19:53

Dreadful news. Hope our Nottingham community is ok.

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 13/06/2023 20:18

Hope all our Nottingham dwelling 'adult children' are OK. Also anyone with links to the area. What tragic news.

DS says there's a strange atmosphere around campus, especially with it being students. The uni have offered help to anyone who feels they need it 😢

Fiddlersgreen · 13/06/2023 21:18

Such awful news. Thoughts are with all involved and all at Nottingham, must feel very strange for them all right now.

cariadambyth · 13/06/2023 21:23

I’m another one just coming on to check on the Nottingham contingent. Just awful. Life really can spin on a sixpence.

NCTDN · 14/06/2023 07:18

Just seen they were only 19 too so highly likely it was their first year at uni. SadSad

estherfrewen · 14/06/2023 07:24

It is just terrible. So tragic.

BlueMarigold · 14/06/2023 07:29

Hi been away for a while but came to check that every one is ok x

Seeline · 14/06/2023 09:01

Hope all of you with Nottingham connections are doing OK. It's such a shock when young people in their prime are just not there anymore. Tragic.

Comefromaway · 14/06/2023 12:21

Just had to update on the previous driving lessons conversation. Ds's very good friend (the one on the gap year) has passed his driving test today. I'm so pleased for him as it will make a huge difference as his mum doesn't drive and he has heavy musical instruments to transport.

Stillgoings · 14/06/2023 12:56

Haven't updated in a long time mainly because uni hasnt been great for our DS from the get go and he is probably not going to.go back after summer. However I just wanted to pop on and say I'm thinking very much of Grace and Barnaby and their families and friends and the Nottingham students..

Comefromaway · 14/06/2023 13:40

Sorry to hear that. Hope he can move forward from here.
