CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 07/10/2022 16:59

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Be warned there might be lots of 'Uni Freshers' chat this time of year. My experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

I suspect so....

Fiddlersgreen · 19/10/2022 17:40

Just catching up and checking in

@Piggywaspushed reading through, I was getting so annoyed on your DS’ behalf then I saw your update! So glad he’s being allowed to change and fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

@Oblomov22 and all involved in this catering malarkey, good luck with your fight!

EwwSprouts · 19/10/2022 17:48

@Piggywaspushed 💪

@singingstones The stuff of sitcoms😂

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 17:50

@Oblomov22 I've sent you a video 😊

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 17:51

So pleased Piggy. Phew!

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 17:53

I didn't even need you to come and fight oblomov!

Heifer · 19/10/2022 17:57

Really sorry to hear @BlueMarigold DD is still feeling rough. It doesn't make things easier that's for sure. DD went with a cold and has never got rid of it which is very unlike her. But she doesn't seem to be eating or sleeping properly so not surprised really. She is finding the study so tiring.

Comefromaway · 19/10/2022 17:57

Great news Piggy

Monkey2001 · 19/10/2022 17:58

Well done Piggy, hope your piglet appreciates your achievement. He has at least learnt that you don't have to accept the first answer!

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 17:59

Piglet doesn't know I emailed them....

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 18:11

Thanks for the PM Heifer.
And Mummy. never been sent a MN video before!

Ok. So this is getting worse. I was hoping we would have a breach of contract. But it's as clear as mud now.

The 4.2 that Popcorn posted doesn't make it clear at all. Was that from your actual contract popcorn? Heifer wondered if the terms and conditions part was only ever on the website?

It's not good is it. They advertised it is 19. I emailed him the photo as Proof.
He replied:

Understandably you have attached a screenshot from the university’s hospitality web pages that advises the catering provided is 19 meals per week. As you are aware, this is incorrect. I contacted the university’s web team on 13 September
when this web page was brought to our attention to ask they update this web page with the correct information. This web page is not operated by Accommodation Services and as such, we were unaware that this information existed and had not been updated in accordance
with our updates in December. I can only apologise for any confusion caused by this errant web page.

So clearly other parents have contacted him if he's updated it on September 13th. (We aren't the only ones fighting clearly).

(Although as mummys video shows they still haven't updated the info for the recent open day, so I'll point that out to him in my next email)

But he takes no ownership and responsibility for that mistake, describing it as an errant website : as if it's some sort of pirate web page that can't be relied upon. which it is not. it is actually the university website. and if he can't get his different depts to comply and cross check that they're all promoting the same data and information then that's his problem.

But I'm not quite sure how to take this forward right now.

you know yourself when you feel that something is just wrong, it's just not right, but you don't know how to prove it?

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 18:17

I know piggy. Probably best. Wink

I'm quite aggressive. I love a good fight. Emails and letters. Probably because I grew up in a very loving family, no fights. And in my marriage it's mostly calm, one or two minor arguments per year. Not much fighting in my job either. Although I've had a few with HMRC and I love those.

I fought to get diagnosis. I fought SS re the boys, and again the school when they accused me of munchausens.

Haven't had a good fight for 7 years. Probably why I'm biting at the bit.

Heifer · 19/10/2022 18:24

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 17:50

@Oblomov22 I've sent you a video 😊

How? I'm intrigued now :-)

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 18:28

Per popcorn:

4.2. The Meal Package consists of:
4.2.1. a daily variety of hot and cold breakfasts Monday to Friday;

So, (5)

4.2.2. a weekly lunch allowance of £25 which you can spend at numerous
campus outlets using your University card, (which will be provided to you
when you arrive) and MyNottingham app. This weekly allowance covers
Monday to Sunday, but options for spending it may be more limited at the
weekends so you should, wherever possible, spend it Monday to Friday;
and

So 7. £25 / 7 = £3.57

4.2.3. a daily evening meal Monday to Sunday.

So, 7 meals.

That makes 19.

They advertised 19.

They've now changed it to 17.
How are they calculating the 17.

3 meals a day for a week = 21.

If you have 3 meals Monday to Friday (15) and then a brunch and evening meal at weekends (4) = 19.

If you are only now having 17, where are you dropping 2 meals. On which day?

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 18:29

Heifer, it was a link, website address to the Uni open day this week.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/10/2022 18:38

@Oblomov22 that was the terms and conditions that we signed up to when accepting the accommodation offer. We didn’t physically sign anything.

The screenshot I posted of the 19 weeks was a cached image of the university’s own web page, when I click the link it takes me to the accommodation info. They definitely changed it the weeks before they went. I had checked the meal allowance so I knew what to provide for DS money wise hence my shock when it was different.

There is a webscraping tool you can view on a particular date..."waybackwhen" ?

omnishambles · 19/10/2022 18:45

well done @Piggywaspushed

ealingwestmum · 19/10/2022 18:47

Wow, loving the feistiness of you lot, well done Piggy, and best of luck with whatever your next move is Ob.

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 18:48

Can you Orange?
We just don't have proof do we? We don't have a clear and decisive proof of our contract, or terms and conditions.

I can't email back and say : you sneaky toerags, you've only recently changed it to 17. Here's my old contract, that says 19.

I just can't do that. We all know it said 19. We all thought it was 19. But I can't prove it.

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 18:50

I'm regarded as quite 'fighty' but only really because I'm a Glaswegian woman who isn't frightened of teenagers ,or senior leaders!

But, actually, whilst I like a debate, I do not like conflict, so I am glad the issue was resolved without any shoutiness or feistiness required!

Heifer · 19/10/2022 18:55

17 is because they are now saying 3 meals Monday - fri = 15 and evening meal sat & sun = 17. Yes it def said 19 somewhere as we all thought that.

Did anyone save the terms and conditions as a document originally? I thought I had but can't find it. The link looks different now to the print out i have with the link on but again not proof. I will look thoroughly tomorrow to see if I printed anything else out

I don't know what that means I'm afraid.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/10/2022 19:04

They have got rid of the cached page now it seems...

That still contradicts the ts&cs page though.
