Thread 42 Corona GCSE Cohort - 👻Creeping it Real for Oct22

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Be warned there might be lots of 'Uni Freshers' chat this time of year. My experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Sorry, I didn’t have any involvement beyond looking at the accommodation pages originally and calculating the costs, but I know it was based on 19 meals.

Well done re the course switch @Piggywaspushed ! Fortunately Birmingham is very good for history. He’ll definitely have fewer lectures too 😂

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 19:18

Yes, contact hours about 8! He had better not DARE moan.

You're right - he has managed to actually change up to a better regarded department.

In The Times league table the only uni he might have applied to above Brum in the history league table is York, and perhaps Exeter or Warwick, but it's very well regarded and the modules look so interesting. He can always do a policy MA if he wants to.

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 19:22

@Oblomov22 I've found the terms downloaded on my phone on 6th April. It's the same as Popcorn posted earlier.

Isthisjustnormal · 19/10/2022 19:32

Great news @Piggywaspushed ! Good luck with the brunch fighting all you Nottingham-ers ;-)

Ds messaged today to ask me if he’d packed any shirts ;-) He’s planning his outfit for a Christmas ball already!

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 19:39

@mummyinbeds

Does that help? Does it provide me the proof that I need.

singingstones · 19/10/2022 19:41

Excellent news for Piggy Jr and Piggy your email obviously did the trick - I wonder whether they decided it would be easier to let him swap than to take you on..

Good luck to the Brunch Battalion, don't let the sneaky gits get away with it, that's not on.

I started mucking out tidying DS's room in preparation for him coming home on Friday, found some long lost stuff like the kitchen scissors and the nice nail clippers. And a ton of A level revision notes, it seems like such a long time ago now.

OH OH OH !!!

Good news!

He is being allowed to change!!

I AM SO HAPPY!

Yay!!!!!! Well done him! I am so delighted. My faith in the Squeaky wheel continues unabated 🤣

Delphigirl · 19/10/2022 19:50

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 17:53

I didn't even need you to come and fight oblomov!

It was the mere THREAT of @Oblomov22 wot did it I reckon…

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 19:50

He certainly got his oil !

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 20:12

Thanks Delphi Grin

kiwiandcherries · 19/10/2022 20:14

@Piggywaspushed Excellent news!! I hope your ds will be really happy on the history course. How does it work? Is it literally an instant swap and he simply starts attending history lectures etc?

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 20:17

I think he awaits a timetable but hopefully next week. I think history has a reading week, though!

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 20:35

This is an absolute success though Piggy. Hoorah.

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 21:17

@Oblomov22 , no, I don't think it does help 🤷

Heifer · 19/10/2022 21:19

@Oblomov22 I've just PMd you again

www.nottingham.ac.uk/Accommodation/Documents/LICENCE-AGREEMENT-Catered-21-22.pdf

This is last years agreement - No idea when they switched from 1 year to the other though. But this is what we all must have read at some point.

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 21:20

Okay experts, just submitting DD's UCAS form. She won't believe me when I say we pay and submit and it goes to school. She's convinced school needs to put in her grades and reference first. I'm right aren't I?

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 21:23

@heifer @Oblomov22 the license period has changed too. Interesting 🤔

279Nouveauxnoms · 19/10/2022 21:37

Yey, excellent news @Piggywaspushed!

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 21:40

Mummy, sorry please explain what does that mean?

Decorhate · 19/10/2022 21:43

Good news about the course change @Piggywaspushed

Ds says his Economics is pretty much the same as what they did for A Level so far. I think he is being kept busy with his Politics classes - they have to write about what is in the news every week

He could probably write a dissertation about today alone!

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 21:43

@Oblomov22 which post?

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 21:46

the license period has changed too. Interesting.

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 21:47

Mine said a lot of it was repeating A level but that the additional maths was too hard. It put him off.

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 21:48

On the old agreement it says 33 weeks rather than 31weeks.

GoldenRuby · 19/10/2022 22:09

Amazing news @Piggywaspushed, well done!
