Thread 42 Corona GCSE Cohort - 👻Creeping it Real for Oct22

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 07/10/2022 16:59

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Be warned there might be lots of 'Uni Freshers' chat this time of year. My experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Sorry to hear of @BlueMarigold dd still ill. And @Piggywaspushed no success with course change.

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 14:35

Notts lot. I have had a response to my catering 19 to 17 meals email. It's such a fob off. I don't know whether it's worth responding to. But I fear not. But it's such a fobb off, it's made me even crosser. Wish one of was a legal expert and I could pass it you for some witty / legal jargon response.

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 14:46

Who was it? Can't scroll back now, at work, and need to leave to go to dental hygienist.

Was it mummy who saw a recent open day clip where they were still saying/implying that brunch was included.

Could you please find out for me. have you still got it as evidence? Because one of the things that knocked me what he says that everything has now been updated.

And he said it was made clear to all students at every other day open day etc.

He blames any statement of it being 19, as an "errant web page".

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 14:48

@Oblomov22 a project for young @JustHereWithMyPopcorn or my very own young @mummyinbeds maybe. Both studying Contract Law this year (I'll keep quiet about my own law degree)

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 14:49

@Oblomov22 that was me. I'll track it down when I get home from work.

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 14:54

Could anyone do me a big favour.
Anyone send me a copy of the contract there are children actually signed.
Pm me?
because I haven't got access to Ds1's now. and I don't wanna bother asking him.

he'll probably be totally embarrassed I'm fighting this case. And ask me to stop. But I love a good fight.

but I'd like to have a look at what they actually signed and what it actually specifies.

mummyinbeds · 19/10/2022 15:03

@Oblomov22 I can access DS's when I get home.

Oblomov22 · 19/10/2022 15:25

Cheers mummy.
Clearly I've got too much time on my hands now that my eldest has gone off to university! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 15:34

I'll sign you up to fight DS's fight for him Oblomov!

Heifer · 19/10/2022 15:42

@Oblomov22 I've just sent you a PM.

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 16:13

I just heard from Birmingham history. Data protection law means they can't communicate with me.

crazycrofter · 19/10/2022 16:17

That’s annoying, but I guess it’s consistent with other things - I’ve not been able to talk to doctors about my kids since 16. Hope he gets hold of someone helpful.

singingstones · 19/10/2022 16:29

On the subject of frustrating data protection, in the summer I asked at our GP practice whether they did meningitis C vaccinations for students. They said they'd look into it and call me back, asked who it was for etc. When they called me back they wouldn't tell me anything because DS is over 18. He didn't even know I'd asked them about it. He was in the shower at the time, I had to explain quickly through the bathroom door while still on the phone and get him to shout that he was happy for the receptionist to speak to me. And then she said "no sorry, we don't do meningitis C vaccinations". 🤦‍♀️

EerilyDevilled · 19/10/2022 16:29

There is a box on UCAS that they had to tick to allow parents to speak on their behalf, without that they can't.

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 19/10/2022 16:43

The key point here with this data protection malarkey is they CAN talk about processes / procedures etc in general terms

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/10/2022 16:45

@Oblomov22 I think I cut and pasted directly out of DS's contract a while back? It said (IIRC) that the £25 was to cover lunches Mon-Sun?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/10/2022 16:47

Here you go....

4. CATERING
4.1. In accepting the Student Residence Offer, You accept the catered meal package
provided by Us, details of which are at clause 4.2 below.
4.2. The Meal Package consists of:
4.2.1. a daily variety of hot and cold breakfasts Monday to Friday;
4.2.2. a weekly lunch allowance of £25 which you can spend at numerous
campus outlets using your University card, (which will be provided to you
when you arrive) and MyNottingham app. This weekly allowance covers
Monday to Sunday, but options for spending it may be more limited at the
weekends so you should, wherever possible, spend it Monday to Friday;
and
4.2.3. a daily evening meal Monday to Sunday.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/10/2022 16:49

That's £3.57 a day for lunch, how much did the brunch cost?

Piggywaspushed · 19/10/2022 17:03
