Starting a new part time job this week (2 days a week one week and then 2 the next) and am on a massive guilt trip about abandoning dd (who is 2.8).
I have worked part time since dd was 3 months but have had last month off whilst waiting to start new job.

Please give me the positives for being a working mum before i nominate myself for "Crap mum of the year" award

No one makes me cups of tea at work - must be doing something wrong .

But there are often nice things to eat .

FF - its the only ones I feel 'safe' writing about for fear of sparking another SAHM v WOTHM row

I intend to use so many holiday days swanning around in hotels with dp that when the children are ill my mum will have to do it, ha ha

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:30

oh god Ihtink 2 or three days is hte right idea

WideWebWitch · 18/07/2005 20:30

I AM joking btw

edam · 18/07/2005 20:31

I was going to say going to the loo on your own but see someone got there first... let's see:
adult conversation;
intellectual stimulation;
money;
time to be just you, not mummy (lovely as being mummy is, it's nice to have some time off for good behaviour);
you get praise/attention/reward for achieving stuff rather than spending all day praising someone else (lovely as that is, too).

Is that enough?

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:31

think she is old enough for that

I feel sad when kdis are ther all week and up late

Magscat · 18/07/2005 20:32

Adult conversation & freindships
Intellectual challenges
Broader horizons
Air con (maybe)
Coffee & lunch you get to finish
Time away from the kids makes me more patient when I'm with them

The child also benefits depending on where they are. E.g. they get to know other family members or they get stimulation from a nursery environment & to play with others their own age.

You are NOT, repeat NOT, being a crap Mum just cos you go to work. You are providing for your family and doing yuor best to get a balance between home & work. Don't give yourself a hard time.

mandymoo · 18/07/2005 20:33

WideWebWitch · 18/07/2005 20:33

You won't know the cbeebies schedule backwards and havd the odd horrendous day when you watch the same Tikkabilla 3 times (bet that's just me) you won't be able to reply to threads that say 'what are the words to the Tikkabilla song?'

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:33

katierocket · 18/07/2005 20:35

katierocket · 18/07/2005 21:06

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 21:06

skerriesmum · 18/07/2005 21:06

If the house is a tip you don't care because you're not in it the whole day! And when it's tidy it stays tidy for longer because no kids are there all day messing it up!

katierocket · 18/07/2005 21:07

yes, one of clients is rock salt compan.....

that was me falling of desk with boredom
