Starting a new part time job this week (2 days a week one week and then 2 the next) and am on a massive guilt trip about abandoning dd (who is 2.8).
I have worked part time since dd was 3 months but have had last month off whilst waiting to start new job.

Please give me the positives for being a working mum before i nominate myself for "Crap mum of the year" award

you get some 'time off' from the domestic dullness and it is miles easier being at work than looking after children!

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:24

you eat lunch sitting dwown

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:25

you get to talk to men!

katierocket · 18/07/2005 20:25

you can go to the toilet with an audience (unless you work someone weird)

compo · 18/07/2005 20:25

you feel that you are contributing to society by paying taxes

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:26

taxes
comp that s the crappest reason ever! lolol

morningpaper · 18/07/2005 20:26

people make you cups of tea

there are biscuits and witty banter

compo · 18/07/2005 20:26

and no one asks you how you're enjoying slobbing around all day watching Phil and Fern

WideWebWitch · 18/07/2005 20:26

You get to keep your cv and skills up to date
if you're happy, your child will be happy imo
er, has anyone mentioned CASH?
Totally agree with all the others plus adult conversation
wearing clothes without snot/sick/food on them

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:26

non in the mag coirt ( aprt from me)

soapbox · 18/07/2005 20:26

You can drink a cup of coffee or tea whilst it is still hot.

If you work in an office you get to sit down until you decide its time to move

You can meet your DH/DP for nice lunches

You can meet friends for the same

Money to spend

Lunch time shopping

All in all it is hard sometimes to find the right balance and what's right for one person is not necessarily right for the next one!

compo · 18/07/2005 20:26

ff

WideWebWitch · 18/07/2005 20:27

taxes? taxes? Wot?

PiccadillyCircus · 18/07/2005 20:27

You can wear clothes that don't get covered in whatever your child manages to get on you (and spill your food down yourself instead .

compo · 18/07/2005 20:27

you value your days off with dd more and feel like you've earnt chill out evenings more

WideWebWitch · 18/07/2005 20:28

Ooh, ooh, I've got another one, when (if Iever get a job) we are both working we intend taking the odd day off together and spending it in bed in a hotel.

flowerfairy · 18/07/2005 20:28

Proper adult conversation, with funny jokes, well sometimes.

someone might say well done, good work!

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:28

so all these reasons are braodly
a) you get away form your kids

or B) osuperficial - ie lunches adn clohtes
snort tastic!!!

PiccadillyCircus · 18/07/2005 20:28

It's lovely when you see your child at the end of the day and they go "Mummy" and run over to you .

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 20:29

" go to work you eat biscuits and tell jokes"
