How often wash DC clothes?

My young DC wear the same clothes until they are dirty - (not underwear) - even socks..sometimes it can be a few days - is this normal and ok?

i wouldn't do it with socks as i believe even kids feet sweat but if trousers tops etc are still clean then there's no reason not to

i am manic with washing though and chuck dd's in the wash every evening by default

ilovesprouts · 19/02/2010 15:19

no my dcs have clean clothes on every day

GoddessInTheKitchen · 19/02/2010 15:20

ooops i meant dd's clothes, not dd's [shame] (although i wash her every night too!)

Ds (3) has always had new clothes every day until recently. Now he will occasionally wear jeans for example a second day but that's it.

I dont suppose top / trousers matters really but I think pjs and socks etc should be changed daily.

Tee2072 · 19/02/2010 15:23

My 8 month old son wears clean clothes every day. Of course since he is learning how to feed himself, he wears several sets of clean clothes every day, no matter how big or all encompassing the bib claims to be.

MrsBadger · 19/02/2010 15:25

dd can occasionally make trousers do another day, and jumpers etc that are not next to the skin and/or are only worn when going out can do several, but it's a rare day when her top is clean enough to rewear.
Socks and underwear are clean on every day.

It makes me feel better knowing she started the day clean, even if she's covered in mysterious sludge by bathtime...

MrsBadger · 19/02/2010 15:26

pjs go several days here - I mean she puts them on after the bath and takes them off before breakfast so they are actually the least-dirtied of all her clothes.

plonker · 19/02/2010 15:38

I used to wash the dd's clothes after every wear, especially pfb's.

I kind of think it's a bit ridiculous now though. I mean, if I have a pair of jeans on which I've only wore once and they're not dirty, I don't wash them anyway. Same goes for the dd's.

That said, it's only dd1's (10) who gets more than one wear out of her clothes. The other 2 (nearly 7 and 2 1/2) can't keep their clothes clean for a whole hour never mind a whole day!

Underwear is clean every day regardless.
Pj's are changed every other day unless they have milk slopped down them.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2010 15:46

They all wear clean clothes, underwear and pjs every day.

Chaotica · 19/02/2010 17:17

Some of you people have DCs who do not end each day covered in gunk? How do you do that?

MillyMollyMoo · 19/02/2010 18:06

Mine seem to change clothes hourly some days, into an outfit, then dressing clothes, then back into something else because we can't find the original ones.

Do you all sleep in day clothes, Riven?
I only wash when they look dirty or smell. Applies to my clothes, too.

MillyMollyMoo · 19/02/2010 18:13

Some people sleep naked, it aids accidental shagging I heard, must give it a try

katiepotatie · 19/02/2010 18:19

Trousers, pinafores (sp?) jumpers, all go for a couple of days or so, t shrits, vests, socks, pj's changed every day. (Just all had vomiting bug, so lots lots more over the last couple of days)

nancy75 · 19/02/2010 18:21

clean underwear, clothes and pjs everyday for all of us!

SailAway · 19/02/2010 18:28

Why the heck would you like to wash clothes that are not dirty?

the dcs are changing their uniforms for school every other day.
WE and holidays are more of a hit and miss as we are often out in the countryside ie lots of mud lol

They are 4 and 6yo.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2010 18:34

Who says they're not dirty? The only thing I wash most days that could possibly be worn again is the pjs, and my reasoning on that front is that if I'm putting on a load I might as well throw in the pjs.

I only wash stuff when it's dirty or smelly. It's been a revelation to me that there are people who have clean PJ's every night.

ElenorRigby · 19/02/2010 19:14

Riven are you a vegetarian/vegan?

mathanxiety · 19/02/2010 19:15

My teens insist on clean clothes every day, and the others wear a uniform which they take off when they get home from school. The uniform pinafore/ skirt is washed once a week, shirts get changed daily. On the environmental question, if the teenagers were to have enough changes of clothes to go a week or so without washing anything, how much in the way of natural resources would it take to make and transport the clothes to the shops and then home to the non-existent storage space in my house? I suppose I could ask them to wear things twice, but really, teenagers smell, and teen boys especially so, even with a shower and hair wash every day (twice actually with sports).

SofaQueen · 19/02/2010 19:19

DSs wear clean clothes everyday - clean pyjamas, clean uniform, and DS2 gets changed sometimes twice. DS1 is a slob, and DS2 has explosive poos which run up the backside and down the legs.
