I was shocked the other day when I heard my sister say to my niece (nearly 4) 'let me put some cream on your vagina, it looks a bit sore'. She is a teacher, and said their PSE teacher at school said it was important to use the proper names from the start, partly so they learn not to feel embarrassed about body parts etc, also so they can always tell you if something is wrong etc.

I've never thought of myself as a prude but I was really shocked! It seems such a grown up word for a little girl. My DD is 22 months and we don't have a name for her bits as such yet, though she knows what all her other body parts are so I guess I should call it something...

What does anyone else call it?? I know my SIL uses the word foofoo with her DDs, and I vaguely remember my mum referring to your 'inbetweenies'!

haha some of these are really funny, with my DP's DD we call it her foof.not sure why though!she's 3.

Am I being unreasonable to hate the word vulva? I know it's technically correct but tis fugly.Too scientific. I think were going to go with foofoo at first then vagina when she is old enough to say it.

poshsinglemum · 20/02/2010 21:02

I never use the word vulva to describe my bits even though I know it's the correct term. I also think that vagina describes the internal part so mabe I'll have to stick to cutesy terms for now.

at the posters who are saying that flower/fairy etc is sexualising things.

Here ds has a willy and DD has a woowoo.

I do not even refer to my own as a 'vagina' it sounds to medical, mines a fanny

LynetteScavo · 21/02/2010 10:41

Front bottom.

Because it's the only thing I can bring mysleft to say in a public toilet.

TheHappyCat · 21/02/2010 22:37

Lulu for us.
Amusing how many people are "doing the right thing" and not giving "silly names" and are calling the vulva by the wrong name (vagina) anyway

glitterkitty · 21/02/2010 22:46

We always use 'gina' (pronounced gy-na not jeena) -as a mid way between vagina and foof/mimsy etc.

Agree there should be a girls version of willy...

BelleDameSansMerci · 21/02/2010 22:50

It's mini-min here... No idea why!

Gubbins · 22/02/2010 14:35

Vulva, Vagina, Urethra for my two. The three year old likes to dance around in public places singing 'Daddy's got a willy, Mummy's got a bagina, I've got a bagina, L's got a bagina. BAGINAS ARE THE BEST!'

And who can argue with that?
