what age did you say goodbye to buggy?

Just curious. My 4 and a half yr old hasn't used his buggy for a few months. Know that people go on at the age of some kids still in buggies - so what age did your child say goodbye to their buggy? To walk him to school in the morning, I feel he still needs it as it's a good 30-40 min walk and he dawdles badly and we would always be late and stressed. Or what if you wanted to go a really long walk?

3yrs 3mths. Buy him a scooter it speeds things up.

about 3.5 i think, but we did a lot of walking in and out of town and stuff (25 min walk)

by 4 he could do that walk and back again quite easily

Definitely get him a scooter, you will have to get him to school without the buggy soon anyway.

I do occasionally still let my 4 yr old on the back of the P&T if it is raining badly or if we are walking miles. I don't drive and we do travel long distances ....and I have little patience.

Was just considering giving mine up - ds2 is 2.4. I have a fractured wrist and have done with out it for last few weeks as can't push it. He's been fine, although haven't had to rush back from school for work as I'm off.

DD and DS1 had to make way for the baby in the pushchair, both were under 2, both walked fine because they had to. We have a dog and do go for long walks - if they got tired we had a rest. If they got really tired that had the occassional piggy back.

DS1 is 4.5, he wouldn't go near a pushchair now and as he's quite tall he would look very funny in one.

Dawdling in the morning isn't an option for my dc - I am not good before 9am!

DS is nearly 4 and baby due in April just before his birthday. Only use it for going to school as need it as its a 20 min walk and he's so tired at end of day (and its uphill). He knows that when the baby comes there is no double buggy. Should just make him walk but don't like to be late for work!

My DS, 2.3 years rarely uses his buggy now. If we are walking to the supermarket I will take it as its easier to put him in his buggy while we're walking around the shops, but he can walk for around 1 hour without asking to be picked up. he really enjoys being out and about and loves walking so I guess I'm lucky!

My ds1 is 2.5 and rarely uses the buggy now. I don't drive so we walk most places.
Ds2 is 11 months so I'm still taking the double out for now if ds1 gets tired or is taking too long.
I'm on the look out for a buggy board now though

We have more or less finished using the pushchair in the last couple of weeks - he is 2.3 and we walk everywhere!!!!!

you've set my mind at ease somewhat. Am about to have dc2 and dd is 22mos. Have no double buggy as thought it a waste of money but now worried she is much too young. Good to know it has been done.

i kept mine for long walks but when on holiday he was 3 half i put it in a charity shop up there as he did so well and i think i was more attatched to it than anything if its really long walks we'll walk one way get bus or taxi back

can you get bus to school? half way maybe walk the rest

my oldest DD came out of buggie at 2years when my ds was born. tried a double buggy and got rid after a couple of weeks as she kept letting herself out of it. likewise ds stopped using it at 2 as wanted to be with big sis.dd2 also about 2 years . just have kids that wanted to walk everywhere and that imo is a good thing

My DD was quite a late walker. Around 18-19 mths. But we did away with the buggy pretty soon after that.
We do mostly drive everywhere though.
The scooter sounds a good idea.

I've kept going with a Phil and Teds till the week before 4th birthday with youngest, ie 2 weeks ago. I have been saying for the last year that we will stop, but she still loved it and it made my life a lot easier (school and pre-school in different directions, only 10 mins each, but with minimum 4 bags each time a lot easier and quicker with buggy). Also v. handy for shopping with, chuck everything in back seat. I felt justified in using it until about 3.5 YO as it was the only way I could get DD to take a badly needed afternoon nap, but that stopped last summer, I used the snow last week to force the issue and that's it, it's going on Ebay when I get a minute.

what about a bike could learn to ride a bike on way to/from school. dd2 used to always be on her bike or a scooter on school run while walked older 2 to school.stabilisers came off when she was 5 now (once weather improves) i often bring her bike with me to pick her up so she can cycle back home.

guess it depends on distance and the time. Seems most have got rid of the buggy quite early on but how far will your child walk and what do you do if pushed for time? Guess I just liked the fact I could stick him in if it was a distance or pushed for time and didn't have to deal with his moans or asking to be carried etc plus I'm a very fast walker LOL!!

Got rid of buggy when DS2 was about 2yrs 8 mo or so.

He hadn't used it for ages, was able to walk home from CM (about 2.5 miles) if needed and I hate em anyway.

Our walk to school is 10 mins! But a 4yo who is at school can manage 30 mins (is that your 30 mins or his? ) - agree, get him a scooter.

Long walk? Well I guess there was a period when we ditched buggy but before DS2 was up to walking 5-6 miles; I suppose we kept the walks shorter then (ie tailored our lives to the needs of our DC)

skidoodle my gaps are 2yrs almost exactly and just under 22 mo; never had a double, used sling and then buggyboard. Poor old DS2 never even had the luxury of b/board!

I find this odd, the idea that it's somehow wrong to use a pushchair after a certain age. It's a cultural thing isn't it, like the old reins debate?

DC's school is a mile away and I used the pushchair to bring DS home until he was about 4.6 because he was tired after school, also it was easier to carry all the paraphernalia.

He's 10 now and has suffered no lasting damage as far as I can see.

Ds started walking when he was 22 months and he was turfed out of his buggy at 2 yrs 4 months although tbh it wasn't used much once he reached 2 yrs.

within a week of 3rd birthday when his brother was born, and intend on doing the same withDS2 now 2.5 - tbh I am already staring to take trips around the village without it

It's odd to me to push an NT 4.6 yo in a buggy.

Also almost certainly beyond the buggy's weight limit? What 4yo can't walk a mile?

I completely agree, Clary! I know it's harder without the buggy, especially for storing shopping / book bags, but children need exercise too!
