Don't worry kmummy, a bit of fresh air and the distraction will do him good, he can be all wrapped up and still snooze, so unless he's being sick or something I would do just the same.
I know how hard it is with 3 on your own, I never get any help, I'm always needing an extra pair of hands, very stressful at times.

kmummy · 05/12/2009 11:43

Thanx MF, she made me feel so bad, not the first time - least i dont feel like the worse mummy ever, he hasnt been sick at all and is just hot, and now appears to have Niagra falls coming out of his nose bless him! An extra pair of hands would be great wouldnt it, i think when you have more than one you realise the world doesnt stop if there unwell Will be out for 2hrs at the most, and itl be nap time so i doubt hel even be awake for any of it! x

Scotia · 05/12/2009 11:50

Kmummy, who's making you feel bad? Stuff them , you need to go out and it won't do him any harm to get some fresh air. It's not like you're sitting him out in the middle of the park in a blizzard!!

Kerr has the same thing, his first ever cold and cough - wee soul. I just think it's everywhere at the moment and they are going to catch some of these winter bugs - it's how they build up their immunity.

I was very stupid to put cloth on Clement last night! [cries] But after yesterday morning in a sposie had him waking up with a vest wet up to his armpits and neck (the fleece sleepsuit keeping the bed dry!) I was determined to give nighttime cloth a go again, especially since he was doing so well with cloth during the day. But it was a major bad mistake!

I put him in a Bedbug and UD fleece wrap at about 1am (when I went to bed last night, after he'd been asleep for several hours) and at 9am this morning....

he woke up covered in raised/bumpy rash of some sort, all over his lower tummy and particularly on one thigh, as well as the area where the rash always comes back, but basically, he looks bad, as seen here:

I guess it looks a fair bit eczema like, but I dunno really! Looks really sore, whatever it is!

Scotia · 05/12/2009 12:23

I don't know if you've tried minkee liners Rachel - might be worth a try. It does look like an allergic reaction.

What size disposables are you using? I always found if they were at the top end of the weight range it's better to get the next size up. You might find it less likely to leak that way.

TBH, I'd be tempted to use disposables at night if you can sort the leak problem out.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 05/12/2009 13:30

Clement seemed to get red skin when using minkee liners (or if I wash him with minkee cloth like a wipe) - I think he just doesn't like fluffy stuff next to his skin! lol Similar reaction to fleece, but so far the suedecloth seems OK. But he was OK with fleece when he was younger, we always used fleece liners - so don't know why his skin started to dislike them a couple of months ago.

A few minutes ago I opened the nappy bucket, and realised that the Bedbug he was wearing last night has a STRONG and burning smell of ammonia, which I'm not aware of his nappies ever smelling of (so I don't think it's just his urine). And the inside of the nappy almost looks orange in places! Which really has me wondering ... if that's what made the rash? But I can't think why it should have any sort of build up, since they were washed so many times, and very thoroughly! But I do know that Bedbugs are very prone to build up and are difficult to sort out! But the nappy smelled and looked perfect before I put it on him (I gave it a very good look over and sniff before risking putting it on him) so I had no idea there was a problem. grrrr!

oooooooooh, I DO hope I haven't sent a dodgy nappy to tree to borrow! I hope this is the only one like that and that they weren't all bad! Did you get any strong smell off it when you used it the other day?

Maybe my soap flakes mix just doesn't dig deep enough into the fibres to thorougly clean them, and they've got an ammonia build up!

swampster · 05/12/2009 14:29

Bedbugs have a microfibre core - worst, eye-watering ammonia we've had was with Fluffles - microfibre!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 05/12/2009 14:46

hmmmmmmph! dreadful stuff it is! lol And I bet with the density of the Bedbugs, it's a lot harder to clear out! Probbably need tough Bio detergents, or at least non-bio! But I'm guessing my soap flakes just aren't tough enough to get into these thick nappies!

...and come to think of it, we did have stinky build up issues with Bedbugs a couple of months ago (and I think Clement was even having rash from it) but several washes with Surcare detergent sorted then - but I had to go back to soap flakes since Benjamin got patches of eczema on his bottom from the Surcare. But they haven't been used very many times since I sorted the previous build up problem, so it's annoying if they get bad so quickly with my soap flakes!

Hiya everyone

DD4 was desperate for some new clothes so the inlaws gave us thier tesco vouchers today and we got her a few bits in the sale She will be sorted now, she just doesnt seem to grow so has actually worn them out rather than outgrown!

DD4 has been bashing my keyboard and now my text is tiny i can hardly read it I dont have a clue what she has done!

Rachel i hope Clement's rashes all clear up Looks very sore

swampster · 05/12/2009 22:02

Quiet here tonight - where IS everyone?

Today I have been jabbed for swine flu, picked up some lovely fluff from the Post Office (thanks, 4), viewed a house, been to a birthday party... [zonked] [zzzzz]

mumface · 05/12/2009 22:13

I am here, posted all my mediums off today and still no ebay fluff! Am missing them already, still have smalls (wondering if I can squeeze him back in them!)

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 05/12/2009 22:20

I'm here too

Swampster I'm glad the fluff got
to you ok and that you like it

I really want to watch the film premonition on c4+1 but I have to be up early for the brownie craft fair tommorow and I'm knackered now! Times like this I wish we had sky+!!!

swampster · 05/12/2009 22:40

How's your keyboard, 4? What happened to you sounded strangely familiar and deja vu then I realised MarkStretch had posted exactly the same problem today! Spottyshoes sorted her out thusly:

Bit of an obvious one but is the magnification thingy on your bottom tool bar set at 100%? We have a tiny slidy button that can change the zoom from the keyboard that DS knew about and I didn't. For months!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 05/12/2009 22:49

surfaces from hectic family stuff going on and waves

Quick Q.....it is Bold 2-in-1 that's OK for nappies isn't it? Before I make a big mistake with my next nappy load!!

We have had to change to a Bio powder as I'm sooooo fed up with Fairy a) not getting things clean and b) not rinsing out. A couple of washes of our clothes with bold and the rinsing issue has gone away. Anyone else had issues with fairy not rinsing?

Rach, poor Clement, that looks really sore Definately looks like some kind of urine burn, but he is in a sposie in the pic? Is this happening with sposies as well? I really feel for you as we had similar issues with DD but was more big patchy areas on her buttocks and thighs. Eventually gave up on cloth and even had it bad at times with sposies. Doc said it would probably resolve once she was out of nappies and hey presto, it has. referrring to the above, is it a rinsing thing with your nappies? Do some powders rinse out better than others?

And oooooh I sold some nappies . Only about £60 worth but I have sooo neglected things recently it was nice to have some interest.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 05/12/2009 23:39

daisy: Yes, he was wearing a sposie in the pic - that was about 1-2 hours after he woke up this morning. I put a sposie on him as soon as I saw the rash, but wasn't awake enough for a camera to document it! lol

And yes, I think it's a rinsing issue, or just that my soap flakes aren't powerful enough to get through the dense fibres/core of the Bedbugs! We're OK with inserts for pockets, but that's cut up bamboo terry squares (which are super thin), a few thin hemp inserts, and ordinary microfibre inserts (which get a bit wiffy at times, but nothing too bad).

I almost think that nappies can get a build up of any washing powder/soap/detergent. Surcare was fab for us for ages but eventually the nappies were stinky, which the soap flakes sorted out perfectly! Then we had soap flake build up (or something of the sort!) which Surcare then sorted! So guess I might have to go back & forth to sort the nappies, but Bedbugs just seem hard to keep free of buildup - I've been told they're very prone to it! I think someone told me they'd bought 10 preloved Bedbugs and 8 out of the 10 had a build up problem when they arrived! For some reason though, out of the 7 I've bought, only 1 was like that originally, and it's one with a cotton sort of inner, and it hardly ever is smell free! (hence it's hardly ever used!)

Hopefully the rash will clear up soon and we can get him back in pockets. and I might just try a pocket with wool over it for night and see how that works!

AWOL again! Sorry - mad busy and full of cold - just sticking my head in to let you know I'm alive! No time to read everything now. May be back later to catch up!!

Evening all...seem the bugs are doing there rounds, DS2&3 are really poorly bless them, hate it when there ill

On a good note DS3 crawled today for the first time (has been doing weeks of backwards pushing) hes been so frustrated, so hope hel start to realise what he can do this week hehe! DH is also back tomorrow, wohoo! Have missed him so much and we get to put the decs up

Ive not had build up in my nappies, out of interest how much powder does everyone use, i tend to put a teaspoon of powder in!

mumface · 06/12/2009 22:21

I put 2 milk powder scoops of Bold 2-in-1, not had any build up problems since using so little powder. I used to use 1 tablet, but have never had to strip nappies since swapping to powder.

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 06/12/2009 22:32

Oh no myjob! Mine have had that too, its horrible isn't it!

I don't know what to do about all my nappies. I must have well over 100 preloved nappies to list for sale . But I just don't know where to start with them! It will take hours to sort through them all! But I need the space and paypal. Have way too many nappies! I just look at the bagsful and get depressed thinking of how many hours work that is sorting through them all, getting stains out, taking pics, listing them, etc etc etc

We have had a bit of a strange weekend - DH found out he has a half sister that he hasn't seen since he was a toddler AND his Dad contacted him, again who he hasn't seen since he was tiny and doesn't remember him. Its all a bit overwelming

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 06/12/2009 22:40

mumface do you have hard or soft water? Mine don't get clean enough if I use that little powder? But we do have very hard water?

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 06/12/2009 22:44

Rachel - Talia has got a similar rash, but it doesn't seem to bother her. It comes and goes but doesn't hurt her so I haven't worried too much. Doesn't seem to be any particular type of nappy that causes it for her. She had it tonight and it looked worse than usual. Just put some punkin butt cream on and put her to bed in an UDNN.

swampster · 06/12/2009 22:53

Good grief, Jenny, that's major! Your poor DH must be overwhelmed. Try make sure he gives himself the space to take it all in.

mumface · 06/12/2009 22:54

Jenny- Soft water. I havn't noticed any difference in the nappies cleanliness with using less powder, infact I use half recommeded on all washing and it's fine, even whites.
