have to take DS1 to his induction afternoon (2nd one - hoping he doesn't throw up like he did last week LOL) at his new school.........thing is DS2 has his sleep at 1pm-3pm - and the induction afternoon starts at 1.30

So I'm going to put DS2 down for his sleep as usual, at 1.30 on the dot grab the monitor, lock the front door and whizz round to the school to drop DS1 off - then whizz back again

You posted for an argument; why are you now annoyed because you've got one?

I'm off out into the sunshine too.

edodgy · 21/06/2005 12:03

if you're good friends with the headmistress and the school is that close to your house why dont you ask her if she minds knocking round and picking up your ds that way you dont have to leave your baby son at all.

QueenOfQuotes · 21/06/2005 12:04

Angeliz - I recently took him (ds1) into the school with me when I went in with a group from church to introduce our afterschool service.

I "intended" to keep him with me - but the Headmistress whisked him off the the reception classroom to 'show' it to him..........she came back 2 minute later without him - he was playing happily there.

It's his SECOND induction day - and if I had ANY concerns that he would want me to stay (I should be so lucky - can't even get through the nursery classroom door before he's saying "bye" and telling me to go away - what happened to my little boy!) - I would keep DS2 awake and put up with him being tired and miserable later (which is what I did last week when parents were 'asked' to stay)

personally (and im not judging) i wont even leave dd in the car when im at the petrol station paying i take her with me whether she is sleeping or not

HappyHuggy · 21/06/2005 12:05

I leave my kids in the house if im hanging the washing out / putting the bins out / taking a parcel next door / knocking on the neighbours to tell them to shut the fu*k up

The schools sounds about as close to QOQ as my neighbours to me, I think as long as the childs in his cot and theres no obvious danger - such as having the cooker on etc then he'll be fine for 2 minutes.

jessicasmummy · 21/06/2005 12:05

with you on that one starshaker

Lonelymum · 21/06/2005 12:05

Starshaker, if you had four children, would you still take them all with you when you went to pay for petrol?

starlover · 21/06/2005 12:05

blimey. i leave DS in the locked car while i go and pay for petrol.

QueenOfQuotes · 21/06/2005 12:05

"yes they could starlover but if you were int he house you could get there quicker to help it."

Blimey do you people (plural not just aimed at you) read anything I type (hmm I thought not ) I can get from the school door to his bedroom quicker than I get from my garden to his bedroom - mainly because of the layout of my house.

Angeliz · 21/06/2005 12:08

I left my two yesterday in the car (4 and 4 months), car was locked and it was right at the window, as i thought it would be much riskier to get them both out.
(Can't remember my views on that when i only had one).

I've just had an idea........

before I leave the house - I'll do a really quick post on here.......

as soon as I get back (and run up the stairs - I'm very unfit mind ) I'll post to say I'm back

OP posts:
starlover · 21/06/2005 12:10

i mean lets assess risk
take the petrol station example.

is your baby more at risk sat in a locked car

OR

being held in your arms as you walk through moving cars and into a shop where you may have to hang on with one arm whilst signing a credit card slip?

jessicasmummy · 21/06/2005 12:10

i might change my mind once i have number 2, but if jess isnt within ear shot, im not happy. its a gorgeous day, she has now been napping for nearly 2 hours and i havent been outside once. Jess has now mastered the art of standing in her cot, how would i feel if she fell and i couldnt get to her straight away to comfort her?!

starshaker · 21/06/2005 12:11

i admit im a paranoid mum lol
however when i used to babysit my little sisters i would go into the garden and leave the bedroom window open so i could hear if they were crying

Lizzylou · 21/06/2005 12:12

We People are the ones you are initiating discussions with by starting a thread QOQ!!!

You are obviously happy with your decision and have obviously thought it through, so why start a thread about it and then be a tad condescending to peole when they disagree??!!

QueenOfQuotes · 21/06/2005 12:12

jess - you may well find you change (please don't take it the 'wrong' way) thinking back to when I just had the one - I was very 'unsure' about going out of earshot of him and do LOTS of things drastically different "now" to what I did "then".

Anyhow I'd better go - I'm really being a bad mummy now - DS1 is shouting that he's hungry

SoupDragon · 21/06/2005 12:14

Does anyone have QoQ's address? I'm going to call social services and the police.

snigger.

Seriously though, I wouldn't do it.

starshaker · 21/06/2005 12:14

she is in her carseat when i take her in with me and the station i use is always quiet and i am pretty sure she would be ok but im paranoid lol the car seat we have is fab cos it clicks into the base so dont even need to unstrap it or anything shes sleeping in it at the mo cos didnt want to wake her

assumedname · 21/06/2005 12:15

Given your situation QoQ, I see no problem.

starlover · 21/06/2005 12:16

I was at my mum's yesterday and left DS in his pram in the garden sleeping while we went in to make lunch.

am i a bad mummy?

starlover · 21/06/2005 12:16

but you're still at more risk of being hit by a car/ tripping over with her/ someone walking into you

than whatever you think may happen to her while in the car! (i can't think of a risk other than the car blowing up)

RTKangaMummy · 21/06/2005 12:17

I know the solution

knock a hole in the wall between house and school playground and send older child there by himself

starshaker · 21/06/2005 12:18

the main reason i do it is a couple of weeks ago the petrol tanker came in to fuel up and when it was reversing it hit a car and 1 of the pumps the drivers excuse was oh im used to there being more room and ive been paranoid ever since

katierocket · 21/06/2005 12:18

what a bizarre thread. Why bother posting QOQ - you just seem to be spoiling for an argument.
