Do you think 9 is too old to do the father christmas thing

Hi
What do you think my ds will be 9 December and previous years I have done the mince pie, glass of coke for santa, and the carrot for Rudolph.
Will he be too old this year.

He's only too old when he tells you he's too old. If he wants to do it, then go for it.

nah I think you're never too old for it. It's a bit of fun and even if he is just jollying you along with it, it'll still be nice.

Does your ds ask you for all the details, like how exactly can the reindeer land on the roof and why is it they don't slide off (steeple roof)?

No. He isn't too old until he decides he is too old.

TBH though even then we will probably do it as part of our family Christmas Eve tradition for a good while later.

I think last year he was probably realising that its all pretend but I think he does enjoy the idea of it so still likes to do it.
He was asking questions like that last year ZZZ.
He has asked how he manages to get to so many houses in one night

At the time that advert was on about cola and father christmas so ds insisted on leaving him coke.

no i think as long as he enjoys it and wants to do it its all good! i plan to do it for as long as ds's will let me!

I guess he isn,t too old for a trip to lapland then.
Its something I was thinking of but wasn,t sure if he is a little old now.

my dd is always asking me difficult questions about it but I just conjure up some whacky answer. I've noticed she looks at me intently with a huge grin on her face all the time and I don't know whether she is thinking: "let's see what the old loon comes up with this time" ( I think that's quite likely) or whether she is soaking it all up and believing every word.

We still get a lot of mileage out of it.

When he starts telling you he is goingto be setting a trap for Father Christmas etc, I think you'll have to admit it but otherwise just carry on. It's all just a bit of fun after all

My eldest is nearly 10 and still believes. Or he is playing along to keep up the magic. I only intend to stop doing father christmas when they decide not me.

DD1 helped me put out a sherry and mince pie for Father Christmas last year and she was 17 at the time . My three will be 18, 16 and 13 this Christmas and there will still be a carrot for Rudolph as well. None of mine believe in Santa any more (well I certainly hope they don't!) but its all just a bit of fun and part of a family tradition. Santa also leaves some magic dust (glitter!) in the chimney after he's been down it. Actually I think I am sounding a little mad now so I'll stop.

My eldest did the mince pie and brandy thing last year (aged 16) and would be devastated if I said she was too old now. You're never too old! I'll probably be putting a brandy and mice pie out when they've all left home. It's just not Christmas otherwise.

None of mine admit to knowing about FC - they wouldn't dare! And I'm more than happy to play along until they leave home

I've started to wonder about this. My dd is 8.5 and only tonight in the car on the way home was talking about him. I am sure that I stopped believing when I was about 7. OTOH, I did grow up in a rather rough part of east London and I'm sure that someone there would have been more than happy to disillusion me.

We did the Father Christmas thing throughout the years when we were all grown up and there wasn't a single child in the family. That is not the point. Being allowed to play together is the point.

I'm 8 years older than my Dsis so I played along a lot longer - Christmas lost a bit of it's magic when I was allowed to drink Santa's sherry after Dsis had gone to bed. Previously my dad had always drunk it but he was put off when my mum ran out one year and used water stained with teabags instead. And forgot to tell him.

Play along as long as he wants you to, he probably already knows.

He will tell you when he is too old.

Until then, you have to keep playing along with it, even if that is all he is doing too.

No he's not to old. I agree with ZZZenAgain you are never to old. Our 3 DDs were 16,18 and 21 last Christmas and we still did the FC thing. Puting food and drink out and habging up stockings ( well Christmas bags). DH and I also hace a stocking. All 3 girls came in to our room on Christmas morning, sat on our bed and showed us what they had ben given. DD1 is now married. but we will still do it with the other 2.

my 10n year old asked me is santa was real and i told him he had better beeive or santa won't bring him a thing, he then said the kids at school don't beleive and i said they do really they are just trying to act big, he seemed happy but not sure who's humouring who on this one

santa adds magic so i will keep it up even when he knows for sure
