What do you call it?

My little boy is 2.2 now and we're potty training so he's getting more interested in what's going on 'down there'...

This morning he greeted his penis with "Hello Willy" as I took his nappy off and was pointing out his own and his Daddy's willy as they shared a bath this evening.

It's only a metter of time before he asks where my willy is !

But when he asks - I'm not sure how I'll explain it... Mummy has a.....?

Fanjo is obviously out, I'm not keen on Fanny, Vagina is too medical sounding, Front Bum is just wrong and Twinkle (as used by a friend of mine) is far too silly!

So I'm stuck! How do you guys refer to your bits in front of the kids???

When I was little, a friend of mine had a "tuppence"!!

Why is it boys can have a nickname for thier bits but women have to go with the proper terms or some airy-fairy nonesense?

we call it a toot. dont know why or where it came from but thats what it is.

NoseyHelen · 15/05/2009 11:09

My son's genitals are referred to as his penis and scrotum and my daughter refers to her vagina and vulva. We haven't used the word urethra (which I guess is what is being suggested above) because as yet she hasn't asked how she urinates or pointed to her urethra and said 'whassat'?

mankyscotslass · 15/05/2009 11:15

Whatever you do don't call it your "fairy".

Seems to be used a lot where I live and makes me want to boak.

I call mine my vagina. Or the generic "girls bits".

pavlovthepregnantcat · 15/05/2009 11:18

girly bits/bits.

hobbgoblin · 15/05/2009 11:20

We have girl willy and fanny front.

missmiss · 15/05/2009 11:26

But vagina only refers specifically to the orifice, not the surrounding parts!

Call it your lady garden.

stripeypineapple · 15/05/2009 11:26

When my DD was small we called it a mini. Mini seems to sort of be the femme equivalent of willy.

We still call it a mini now she's turning 7 but also a fanny and a sometimes a vagina.

DD used to have a friend at school whose childminder called it a lulabelle

BunnyLebowski · 15/05/2009 13:00

Haha pineapple - we call dd's a minny too!

When she's older and asks we'll just tell her it's her vagina. Same for other body parts. Straightforward and honest is how I want to be with dd.

Can't stand all this front bottom nonsense. And frilly names like fairy, lulabelle, twinkle etc

smackapacka · 15/05/2009 13:02

woo woo here

starshaker · 15/05/2009 13:06

we call dds a flower

PlumBumMum · 15/05/2009 13:13

when I was little my mum called it bumblina

SarahL2 · 15/05/2009 13:50

Brings a whole new connotation to the phrase "bunch of flowers" though doesn't it

Never mind "driving a mini"!!!!

We've ended up saying 'nunny', which I originally used as a joke but ended up sticking. But we also use 'vulva'; we tend to use the two interchangeably. Initially I was planning to go with scientific terms all the way, but as we don't insist on using them for any other part of her body (e.g. tummy, bottom, tummy or belly button) it seemed a bit weird.

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 15/05/2009 13:57

I only have boys and they've never asked what my bits are called so its never come up. I don't mind fanny. But I hate all this poncy flower, mary, fairy, twinkle crap. It is just so frou frou sounding

GossipMonger · 15/05/2009 16:47

My 2 boys are 4 and 7 and I am not sure that I really want them using the 'proper' word of vulva or vagina.

(IMHO) at this age there is nothing wrong with front bottom, back bottom, willy and bum.

As they get older I will teach them the proper words of vulva (yuk! vile word anyway - not sure I have ever used it!) vagina, anus and penis.......but for now what we use will suffice.

IamAlsoADreamerOfChocolate · 15/05/2009 17:53

I just say they are my 'bits' my 3 yr old ds calls his his 'pepino' from pesholino[sp] in italian[his dad]
