DS (3) is potty trained but not great at holding it.

Where would you draw the line - is it ok to wee in...

a forest?
a big park?
a playground?
in the street?

Or is it never acceptable?

I concede that perhaps it's OK to wee in the forest.

I think my dislike of weeing in public comes from the frequency with which boys wee in our local playground, e.g against the frame to the swings when my DD is on the swing, in front of their parents. I just don't think that's nice.

It's wee. It's outside. You have shoes on.

FGS. If that freaks you out, why not think instead how much worse stuff you are stepping in on a daily basis: dogshit, vomit, snot, ancient food. And all those boys who you've prevented weeing in public just had their hands down their pants scratching their arse before they manhandled the swings anyway.

As a famous anthropologist once said: there's no such thing as dirt, only matter out of place.

Peeing on something other people use is indeed disgusting, as is peeing somewhere where it won't be washed away pretty swiftish (hence using a drain is much much better than an alley or wall).

But the window for small children is only a couple of years really, so nothing compared to the volume of drunk men (both in numbers and literage .

What is it about car tyres? ?? Why do people think they're a good place to pee? I'm mystified. Certainly if you're using the car as a shield pee nearby on the floor, but actually on the type?? Why!

My nephew joyously weed into my in laws pond the other day, poor fish! I was concerned it would give my DS1 one ideas. I had to stop on the road this week because we we 20 mins drive from home, luckily it was a road through a forest so he could wee on a tree, but I was worried about unsavoury characters looking at him. Not that he shouldn't be weeing there, he's 3.5 by the way

loulou33 · 15/05/2009 10:20

Come on - ina forest against a tree....the chances of an 'unsavoury character' being in the same place/same time is very unlikely, coupled with the chances of him being able to actually see your son's very small willy (no offence meant) whilst your leaning over him and he's holding his willy etc is miniscule (no pun intended). I know we worry about strange men but you are with him and its only for a few seconds, how much harm can he come to??

Kitbit, my ex boyfriend, told me it's actually illegal to pee in public, except on your own back tyre - I can't quite remember the full story! And isn't it law that a pregnant woman can pee in a policman's helmet?

JimmyMcNulty · 15/05/2009 17:32

On the subject of illegal weeing, I know of someone who was arrested for weeing in the street, while drunk, about 10-15 years ago. Or rather, he was reprimanded by a police officer for it. The arrest came when he then punched the policeman... He was a head of department at my old secondary school at the time and had taught me history.

I used to let my DS pee anywhere that was discreet if he was desparate. Shame the DH hasnt taken note!
