I thought I'd pop in to the nappy thread and wasn't sure I was in the right place!
It's a while since I was a regular on this thread, but I do recognise some names.

My free LL microfibre came this morning, very excited!

So, what's hot in nappies? I feel like a change.

swampster · 16/05/2009 13:06

wasting: HOT!

HeinzSight · 16/05/2009 13:24

Hi, I'm new to this thread and new to re-usables! I've been using BumGenius for about a week now and DD is starting to develop a bit of a nappy rash, they look like small pimples. I've used Persil non bio. Any suggestions?

Extra rinses, different detergent, nappy-free time, different nappy that you can use a barrier cream with sometimes (I use Baby Beehinds bamboo nappies at night and a variety of pockets in the day time)... I'm sure someone will be along with more ideas soon.

twoclimbingboys · 16/05/2009 13:59

little pimples - could that be more like thrush possibly?

I would say extra rinses and use a fleece liner to protet the nappy just so that you can use cream until it is sorted.

swampster · 16/05/2009 14:06

I found fleece liners irritated DS2 - he always ended up bright red and sore-looking when I used them but he never once had anything I would describe as nappy rash. DS1 was fine with them though but did get nappy rash from time to time. So far, it seems DS3 has a pretty robust arse.

wastingmyeducation · 16/05/2009 14:33

Swampster they are gorgeous!

swampster · 16/05/2009 15:10

They are pretty nice in the flesh too - but I got mediums instead of smalls and now I have to force-feed my DS so he fits into them quickly.

rusmum · 16/05/2009 15:56

two how much for the 1 turqoise and rockmelon?

twoclimbingboys · 16/05/2009 16:07

Each nappy (including a spare insert too) is £12.50 posted, or, all 5 for £57.50!

JennyPenny22 · 16/05/2009 16:09

Does anybody know if the BBH AIOs are as absorbant as the fitteds? I would love to try one but Elouise is such a heavy wetter, it might just be a waste of money for her. That is one of the main reasons I never bought an itti as from what I hear they are not much good for heavy wetters :-(

ceb80 · 16/05/2009 17:35

Jen did you get my post saying I'd paypalled you for the GK?

afterglow · 16/05/2009 17:37

I love my bbh aios The large one arrived today but will have to be changed for a medium, it is comically huge on her bottom. So I'll just have to stock up on the mediums, I don't think dd will be growing out of them anytime soon.

Jenny, mine came with a little bbh booklet that said that fitteds are more absorbent than aios, as the whole nappy can absorb, rather than just the soaker pad and booster. They do have a pocket though, which the ittis don't, so you could try some extra boosting.

I wondered if I was on the wrong thread on p23, but I guess that just comes under the "etc" in the thread title. I really wish that my introduction to being stitched had been in a context other than childbirth.

JennyPenny22 · 16/05/2009 18:00

ceb - yes thank you! I thought I had replied but maybe I just got distraccted! Lol. I am afraid I didn't manage to get to the PO today, sorry about that. I will get there asap though and send first class for you

I bought the UD wrap in the end, nice pink fleece one. As well as another larhe WN one and wet bag from same seller.

I am shopping for some more wipes if anybody has any recomendations? I want some nice soft ones for when LOs have a sore bum!

treedelivery · 16/05/2009 18:41

Hello all

Swampste stop trying to make me buy those nappies! Very naughty! Are they good then?

Ha did it again! Put an itti on and bam - enourmous poo. It leaked too, out the sides. It seemed to miss the insert and ooze down between and out the sides. Hmm.

Still love em though!

She was in a microfleece nappy and a fleece wrap last night. Very impressed. Just brill actually. Just sooo dry.

Wandered into a wool shop looking scared. but found cashmere and merino wool, and lady can get stuff knitted at £2 per ball. So longies here I come! Also a skort [skirt with nappy wrap/shorts in] and a skort with longer leggings if we get on with wool.

Am very excited. Off to google some knitting patterns, if anyone has tips be very welcome!

Hello to little pimples. only use a tiny tiny amount of washing powder. And maybe do a few rinses to remove the thought that it's detergent build up. Fleece liners good for us, but not everyone.

Our dd2 gets rashes, so I put her dispos for 24 hours and she still got them.

P.S am loving IKEA snadwhich plastic bags with seal - strong plastic and perfect nappy size for the changing bag.

TheNatty · 16/05/2009 18:55

had our first day out with ellen in pants today, (tho she keeps correcting me, she wears princess knickers NOT pants )
no accidents and she used the big loo in sainsburys

so both kids in disposables as even with them both in nappies for bed its only generating enough to wash every 4-5 days, and you just cant leave night nappies hanging around that long.

also before i list any on CNT, i am selling:
XL ellas house BH £7 inc postage
L ellas house BH £7 inc postage
these are both new condition as i bought them new so have only been on my babies bums.
WNNN L £6 inc postage and a
wonderoo BTP lilac (any offers welcome just want shot - comes with inserts or not up to you).

lol!

I've been using cloth nappies, but I'm starting to toilet-train DS now, and I'm finding it an awful faff to unpop the wraps and then undo the nappy. Is there a kind of decent cloth pull-up..? I'm looking for something which he can pull up and down himself but which will catch more than underpants...

rusmum · 16/05/2009 20:25

I HAVE SOME COTTON BOTTOMS TRAINING PANTS!

twoclimbingboys · 16/05/2009 20:43

minki yoyos are supposed to be good.

I used motherease training pants with Toby and they were good but I don't think they would catch a full wee.

TheNatty · 16/05/2009 20:56

i personally found that training pants confused my kids, as they were essentially nappies, they would have accidents in them much more often then in pants.
have you tried pants?

Natty - whats the WNNN like? I might take it if that is OK? Shame you have paid me for the GK as we could have swapped! Lol. I do prefer UDNN but Elouise keeps pooing in her night nappies so starting to need loads! And I would love to be able to use the UDNN for long car journeys etc without being stuck for a night nappy.

Natty again - if you wanted to use cloth at night, I know a lot of people in your situation put the nappies through a rinse or 2 before washing and then just add normal washing/clothes/towels or whatever to the wash. So you could still wash every day or 2? The rinses would get the most of the wee out so you wouldn't get it on your clothes or anything? I did it when I first started out with cloth and only had a couple of nappies to try out.

I keep trying to decide if I should become a nappy advisor or not! I really want to, but I also do Usborne books and just don't enjoy it anymore, mainly because I have books everywhere that I need to shift to make space! Sold a few on CNT though!

afterglow · 17/05/2009 12:47

at princess knickers

JennyPenny22 · 17/05/2009 15:05

sorry for double post there!

I leave nappies hanging about that long

But my house is a tip

I wash with the weather and the load - so sometimes a load in the ady and in the night, and then sometimes none for...er...a few days. I think cos I use microfibre by then they have dried and hardly smell. Pluss dd2 is not weaned and now I'm dairy free her poo smells sweet and sticky rather than poo -some. Guess I will need to buck my ideas up when she has turds. That will be my real nappy test I guess!

Hope I am up to it [worried smiley]
